At a maximum. I somehow think he is gonna get some leniency because the stuff was just kind of in there, he didn't specifically target getting those kinds of manga. And other things said in the article I'm just to damn lazy to paraphrase.

*Cough Talim 15 Cough*

Yeah. I got a little carried away.  :-[

After a while I forgot I was looking up images of spank bank video game girls and just wanted to post something about my favorite character from soul calibur 2  :P. To me she is the awsomist, but not the hottest. Taki is the hottest. Talim is sorta hot, in a jailbaitish way, but I haven't wanked to her  :-\. I'd feel too akward. Mostly I just like her fighting style with the tonfas and the way she is all "Innocent and Determed." Cute, but not really that sexy IMO  :-\.

I'd wank to the philapino girl who's cosplaying her all day though  :P.

I've always been partial to Xianghua, possibly because she's the only one I can ever seem to win with...her and link.

Xianghua is Waaaay to cheap in SC2, more balanced in 3. I got pretty good with 5 characters in 3 for a while (Taki, Siegfried, Astaroth, Cervantes, Lizardman.) but I stopped playing and have become really rusty, I can still hold my own with Taki though.

Yea that is a big problem with the game, it's a masher. But somebody who is truly good at the game will beat a button masher. I always played against the CPU.

You can say it's a "button masher" or you can say that "the controls are really intuitive". I prefer to see it the latter way. I like the fact that if you move the controls up and to the right and press x, the character moves her body in a way that reflects the movement of the command. In street fighter every special move is a quarter circle, no matter how the character's body moves. It makes the learning curve easier and more organic, where you can skip the whole "how do I move my thumbs" thing and go directly to "what moves are the best strategy".

"the controls are really intuitive".

That would insinuate that they are easy to learn and can replicate. Button mashing means hitting random buttons without knowing what the hell is going on, and doing well. Generally those people can't replicate their combos.

Rationalize all you want, but Soul Calibur is definitely a button masher. Granted if you try to learn the controls they are fairly intuitive (at least they were to me, after about 10 minutes in practice mode).

Hey, Soul Cal takes place in the middle ages. Back then nothing would be wrong with it!

Speaking of which, a manga collector (with thousands of copies of just about everything in manga.) is facing 15 years in prison because some show pictures of children having sex (surprise.)
http://www.boingboing.net/2009/05/27/manga-collector-face.html

Yeah, that sucks. Especially since the crux of this isn't about kiddie porn (which there is none of) but rather artistic depictions thereof.

The key is: "lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value."

Who the fuck decides that? This has VERY serious consequences for art, now that they can arbitrate however they feel about what constitutes "art" and "literature".

My hands know how to do just about every move Talim can make.
But if you ask me the thum movements to do so, I couldn't tell you a single one.
Just sayin'.

There is a rather large debate on whether drawn pornography is art.

And holy hell is it confusing.

And something we shouldn't get into here.

how is drawn pornagraphy not an art form? don't you draw nude posers when taking basic art classes? it's not all about the fruit bowls.
Just loving it! :-*

It's at least as much artistic as photography, if not more so.

Of course, some people would argue that photographs aren't either.

I suppose people might say "it's not art because it's just appealing to people's sexuality!", to which I would answer, "As opposed to appealing for what?"

But as Deatzh said, that's really not a discussion for here.

Well, it might still show artistic tallent depending on how well its drawn, etc.  I still believe you can draw someone in the throws of sexual ecstacy or love making with artistic value, although I'd agree that some "animu" drawing as Deatzh described above, is evidently not designed to be of, what the majority might regard as, artistic value.  I think something with artistic value has to be beautiful.  Not in so much of a literal sense but in a sense that there is a certain harmony to the image rather than a bunch of baloon breasts, semen and tentacles thrown together.  I guess you'd call it sensual or erotic as opposed to pornographic.  Again, its all a grey and highly subjective area.

In my opinion, images such as these might have artistic value, despite their "full frontal" nature:

On the Manga Porn charges:  I recall opening a topic in the debate forum about this stuff and in the end I think we concluded it was simply a waste of time for enforcement agencies to persue these cases.  Certainly, drawings of nude, underage cartoon characters might constitute as evidence against a perpetrator of a real pedophile crime, showing the accused's nature as one who prefers underage people, but I don't believe it should hold as a crime it's self.

Do not equate nudity with pornography.

Art is subjective.  While you may consider pornography a legitimate form of art, some people do not.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN OPINION OF WHICH I FEEL STRONGLY.
Frankly, I can't ever look at some picture of a semen covered gigantic balloon breasted tentacle raped animu chick and go, BY GOD THAT IS FULL OF ARTISTIC VALUE, because it's just not.  Art? Yes.  Artistic value? Absolutely fucking not.
THE ABOVE WAS AN OPINION ON WHICH I FELT STRONGLY.

And if you argue with my opinion, which I stated was an opinion, you're just being ridiculous.

The people that draw said balloon-breasted, semen-covered, tentackle raped anime women certainly have talent, but I wouldn't call it art. I would call it pornography.

Quote from: wikipedia
Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music and literature. The meaning of art is explored in a branch of philosophy known as Aesthetics.

Some would of course argue that "senses and emotions" include OMGIMSOFUCKINGHORNYOMGFAPFAP.

Only when were looking at your photgraphs, Razzly.   ;)  :P

Seriously, this is about drawings of naked preteens.
It's not about art!
I mean I could try to argue that it is, but then I would have to as it would require a straight face that would be too hard to pull off.  ::)

But who cares!

It's like, there are pedophiles out there! There always have been! There always will be, unfortunently.
The thing is, the law should be about protecting actual children. Not imaginary ones.
If one actual child is saved becuase this is a safe outlet for their pedophilia, then it needs to be kept around.
All this will do is some pedobear will be all, "Shit! This shit is illegal now!"
"Guess I have to go back to raping and murdering real little girls!"

That's a really interesting thing for you to say, since a lot of people say the opposite. If just one child is saved because we BANNED this stuff.

I agree with Ronin, actually.

As terrible as pedophilia is, it is just like any sexuality, and the people can't help it. However, if they can get their hands on drawn child-porn they might be able to use that to satisfy themselves and keep themselves in check. I doubt pedophiles are throughout evil or rotten...

Real sexual photographs of children are sick, though.

If it's drawings depicting ACTUAL pre-teen/prepubescant children in sexual situations, I'd say it's something to worry about for the law as there's a level of exploitation involved.

But for purely fictional characters, despite how grotesque we all might find it, I see little gain and a lot of wasted time in having authorities chase such minor things.  I'd much rather hear about police reviewing cold cases of raped children any day than chasing some bloke who's drawn Bart Simpson 'doing' Dora the Explorer.

Not sure what the heck to make of the argument on how pedophiles are much less likely to offend if they can get their rocks off on fictional kiddy porn.  It covers a whole range of stuff with video game violence and other areas either encouraging or discouraging all kinds of stuff.  Others argue that it only helps them become more comfortable with their warped thinking and then they become dissatisfied and seek the real thing.  Personally, I believe neither is the case and that while a person with sexual preferences towards prepubescent children is the most likely to own such material, it won't encourage or discourage them to commit offenses against them.  If we believe it gives them an outlet, then we encourage it's production, if we believe it causes them to offend, then we give them a court defence: "<such and such's> drawings made me do it!"

What of nude but non-sexual photographs/drawings of children as an art?  I know these pictures caused a stir-up in Australia only a year ago:

"Prohibits drawings, sculptures, and pictures of such drawings and sculptures depicting minors in actions or situations that meet the Miller test of being obscene, OR are engaged in sex acts that are deemed to meet the same obscene condition. The law does not explicitly state that images of fictional beings who appear to be under 18 engaged in sexual acts that are not deemed to be obscene are rendered illegal in and of their own condition (illustration of sex of fictional minors)."1

"* Whether the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest,
* Whether the work depicts/describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct or excretory functions[2] specifically defined by applicable state law,
* Whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. (This is also known as the (S)LAPS test- [Serious] Literary, Artistic, Political, Scientific.)" 2

1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PROTECT_Act_of_2003
2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_test

From what I was just reading it seems legal. Even if the picture itself is kinda creepy.

And to your question of encourage or discourage by things, I find it's completely personality dependent. Because there most likely are pedophiles that suppress their urge through masturbation by looking at child porn. And there are others who makes the urge worse. You only hear about the latter because the former are able to keep it a secret.

I can't agree with the argument, that pictures of naked children would increase the sexual desire aboutthem. When I would want to see naked children I'd just wait for a sunny weekend day and go to the lake, about 1km from here. Nobody bothers about children bathing naked in public.
And there is nothing like a increased pedophile rate or something like that around here.
