Another way to shave costs will be to siphon fuel from the Ark once we arrive too! Need to have our engineers look into that.

Oh! Just a BTW. I will be going on holidays tomorrow, so I might not be the most active person the next week. The first part I will have access to internet. Second, not so much. Just so you are aware of that.

Looks like everyone's all over the map right now. I'll make a ruling on current positions.

The meeting has ended and everyone left. From a rented vehicle Captain Veriss phoned the ship and spoke with Stephen.
Now Torgal has just noticed Naylor.

Naylor has ran and hid some where in a business district and Gant has eventually taken the conference call about the Ark.

TOW the Ark? You're daft!

Also I don't think we should be adding any more things to the ship's problems. It's old but well maintained, not something people would fear for their lives to be on board!

Ok, odd, the second time your deserter notices the big ass sarge he should realize the guy fits the bill of a tough-as-nails sarge who had a rep to survive anything until he got kia about a month ago in a boarding gone wrong as the boarded ship had exploded with this bastard supposedly on it.

He isnt called Oddball for nothing.

Raize doesn't like Stephen much simply because he's a martian (he doesnt like other martians either so make sure you let me know when we encounter some).

I don't intend to RP his shopping trip (unless there's something any of you lot that need doing), but I do have a bar related post or two I'd like to get in before we leave - mainly to help me get settled on the Raize - Mari interactions (I find it much easier if I get it down in an RP rather than on paper)

A lot of the items that are needed are already onboard the Lucre.

By the way, if you didn't get the subtext of the conversation, the ship that found the Ark was a pirate vessel that had to hide in another system after suffering severe damage. They then tried to get additional money for the location but their ship was destroyed their next trip out.

Piracy is odd in this universe. Since nuclear weapons are available there is no easy way to cripple a ship without destroying it. Pirates capture ships by being in a position where the other ship cannot get away so they surrender rather than attempting to defend themselves. The crew is usually ransomed off for low cost and are usually well treated since that encourages surrenders rather than fights which have a high chance of being mutually destructive.

Just to clarify things in my own mind then... As far as I've "got" from what's been said:

The Lucre's over 400 years old, used to be a military warship but now acts as a trading vessel.

That implies that anything used for trade would be operational - so life support, propulsion, navigation, comms, shuttles, etc. would be working any anything else (combat systems) would be dead, missing or in a state of severe disrepair.

It also implies that she wouldnt be carrying the sorts of odds and sods you'd need for any kind of "away" mission (portable power generators, scanners, explosives, etc.). Which also makes the "away team" more like guards (security personal) than explorers (star trek away team style).

OR

Are we more like mercinaries that trade stuff in between jobs?

OR

what?

Dedicated trade vessels were huge affairs, multi kilometers in length and are unsuitable for independent work. The only ships of appropriate size are military vessels, ones out of their service life regularly used to show up on the auction block.

The Lucre, when it was decommissioned, had all of it's military spec gear removed. So the advanced scanners, computer and weapon systems were taken off as well as anything else that was considered military spec at the time. Essential stuff was replaced with civilian grade gear. Everything has been upgraded piecemeal during the centuries and overall the ship is still in good condition.

For self defensive purposes the ship carries 2 uprated maser weapons and 200 heavy missiles, most of which have nuclear warheads. The ships main job is as a trader, on the main spars between the fusion rocket drive and the crew compartments there are many points where cargo pods are attached. By their very nature they can be dumped in a hurry.

The ship may run the margins of profitability but on a personal level the crew is quite rich. Pretty much like having a very well paying job where cost of living is taken care of and you only get a few times a year to spend your money. In times when trading gets bad, independent traders have been known to engage in grave robbing of dead worlds and in a few morbid cases have taken passenger pods, overloaded them and dumped them into deep space after pocketing the ticket fees.

I don't think we will be visiting Sol Sector space anytime soon  :o

Well technically Gant is registered as KIA so he did not desert just lost in the system  :P  and the bit about cable ties and speed tape is meant to be a Mech joke.  If you can't use cable ties or Duct/Speed tape it's not worth doing.

Duct tape is like the force. It has a light and a dark side and holds the universe together.

Also, if it is moving and it shouldn't, duct tape. If it isn't moving and it should, WD40.

I think you can fast forward to the departure now, we on the ground were on our way to the shuttle anyway so unless you want to complicate things with the knocked-out local there is only routine.

I'll wait a bit and let any others finish up their business or post here saying to move forward. The trip is going to be essentially a training montage where everyone gets the gear ready, including fabrication and such, and trains for the salvage operation.

I prefer a hammer in those situations....

The trip will take 108 days. Everyone prepare your activity montage for that time period. We are probably not getting much sleep this run.

For those with engineering skill, you will know that a 5 megaton bomb at the location the guy placed them will gut the forward section of the ship and destroy or damage both of the Linear Drive rods.
