I meant to tell everyone on how I proposed to Smiles a while ago, but my brain farted, and with the stress it's been under, the thought never resurfaced. But now I'm here to correct that.
Now I already had the ring, complete with a custom ceramic ring box with flowers on the top and we were going to be at Duckon together this year (my first year there). But there was a challenge; she was expecting this. So of course I had to achieve complete surprise.
At dinner that night she "casually drops" that proposals happen during Klingon Love Poetry, but I already had plans for that. Sad that I was the only one to recite in Klingon, but that's another story.
We're back in our room in the hotel, and she's unpacking, just bustling around with her bags and the various drawers in the place. The ring was in my laptop bag. With her back turned I manage to get it into my hand, out of the outer cardboard box. Once her back was turned again, I pop the box open, slipped down on one knee and waited for her to notice. I believe the first words out of her mouth were, "Oooh, pretty!" I asked simply; she said yes. And she wasn't expecting it at all. Possibly because she thought I would wait until Klingon Love Poetry, but it worked as I wished.
