The purpose of the thread is for points of conversation that don't really belong in any other thread and/or don't warrant a thread unto themselves.

For instance, I might mention that I'm having some computer trouble just to be friendly and let my fellow forumites know or some such garbage.  No need to clog the lists of topics with a new one.

It works for minor chats and comments, etc.

On the Shadowgirls forum, I created a "The Last Post Wins" thread for all that simple talk.

Exactly.  I created one here for the exact same reason, ha.

The problem I find with trying to chat in the last post wins thread is that stuff gets lost in the clutter. If I wanna post something like "anybody good with computers?" in the last post thread I'm going to have to dig through trounds of posts to find it 2 hours later... and the post may have never even been noticed. But in this thread it moves MUCH more slowly because people aren't looking to "win" persay. It has it's place if you ask me.

I actually miss the old days, where smileys were just text and you could read into them as you liked, now they're just...yeah, no imagination.

Yes, but they are still there.  So I'll end up using them and not realizing it, so that would ruin the point.

Tortillas.

But despite the fact I like hot food, I'm not that big a fan of Mexican food for some reason.

Whats your favorite Australian food?

Never had Dingo, but I guess it'd taste much like a dog.  Kangaroo is an excellent feed but personally I think damper would rate as my favorite.  Other common Aussie tucker includes Lamingtons and Pavlova, although other foods such as Meat Pies are often though of as typical Aussie feed.

damper doesn't seem like there's much to it..what makes it delicious?

also: can someone tell me what do <.< and >.> mean?  forgive my ignorance.  I think it means sort of like you're averting your eyes, sort of looking off to the side, perhaps shyly or perhaps slyly, but I'm not sure...

look left and right, or sideways at someone <.<

Damper is simple but it tastes bloody beautiful.  I'm not sure exactly why but it acutally has a lot of flavour and it's somehow both soft and almost creamy.

Great stuff.

@AApo: Yep, we eat roos. They're not an endangered species, their VERY common and they're farmed in places.  They are very resistant to drought, have less weight spread across wider feet (so they don't trample the ground as easily) and they breed REALLY fast (can have one outside the pouch, one in the pouch and one waiting to be born).  They also nibble just the green tips of grass rather than rip up the whole clump like a cow, thus allowing it to grow back much quicker.

The reasons they're not commonly farmed are: 1 you need a bloody big/good fence to keep 'em in. 2 They heard together but unlike cattle and sheep, they scatter when threatened rather than stick together for an easy muster. 3 unlike the word steak or mutton, people think instantly of a cute kangaroo when they hear they're eating roo.

Exactly, how can you eat something that hops?  But yeah, I guess if people can eat rabbit, it's not surprising that people eat a 'roo.

Also, it took me a second to realize "AApo was me, ha, "Admiral" or "Sieck" next time if ya don't wanna say the whole thing, please.

Charles, would you take one of us around if we visited you?

(mainly to bars?  ;D)

My wife and I have always wanted to visit, sometimes we live in Taiwan, which is just a short (and relatively inexpensive) hop over.  Can we look you up?

Do people in Australia say "down under"?

on a side note, I'm still surprised that Oddball keeps making me LOL.

Yes, we call Australia 'Down Under' as well as 'The Great South Land'.  Yes I can take you around. I live in Brisbane, Queensland.  Personally I think it's one of the best places to visit for tourists.  We've got the sun and surf nearby as well as most of the ammusement parks and Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's own).  Sydney has the Harbour Bridge and Opera house but it's probably better known for the history sites and museums if you like that sort of tourist experience.

Brisbane is known to many Australias as BrisVegas (although I think California probably has a lot more in common for comparison)

I don't know but this post made me crack up like 5 times b/c I kept seeing it while I was typing my post.  Now I see that the image is called drooling.gif, but yesterday I thought it was a dude vomiting, so I thought you were being totally sarcastic...

should have known better.  A Scotsman would think a 'roo looks totally delicious. :D
