« on: June 02, 2010, 04:16:22 pm »
anyone out there watch HBO? shows such as trublood, 6 feet under, and (eventhough its not HB), it should be) dexter?

i love all 3 and would love any other ideas for some shows to get in on that are the similar dark and sometimes hilarious type

also, discuss HBO shows here if you feel so entitled :P

Zearth, you'd probably like "Dead like me" (don't know if it's HBO, though).

A young woman dies a very, very weird death and is recruited in the "Reaper corps". Can't tell you much more without selling punches. But if you like Dexter and Six feet under, I'm sure you'll like it. A little dark and quite humorous.

Well, Tales from the Crypt is an oldie but goodie  ;D.  And most of Dream On (also an oldie) was pretty good.  I haven't seen any of the HBO shows from the past decade, but I might check out Band of Brothers one of these days.

Also, Dead Like Me is a Showtime series.

How accurate is the show compared to the books?

For the first season I'd say about 80-85% accurate. Most remarkable differences are that the show makes the women more submissive, insecure and 'unwilling'. The second is that the ages have been increased with 2-6 years on all the stark children as well as Tyrion and Daenarys. Drogo is also sterner and more 'barbarian' in the show than in the book.

Haven't seen any of the second season.

Really? So the women are much stronger in the books?

You might have just convinced me to read them

For one thing, Dany isn't raped on her wedding night.

I know, dead thread, but I wanted to say that I recently got around to watching the first seasons of True Blood and Entourage, and I enjoyed them both.
