Starting a new thread for movie discussions, one that's season-free! Take that, seasonal movie threads.

What has everyone been watching? And don't say zombieland, cause I still need to catch that, damn it ;P

I got kidnapped randomly this afternoon to go catch Ponyo in theater. It was basically an animated children's book, which has it's merits in some artsy ways, I guess. But this was the first Ghibli production I've ever been disappointed with, and I was really torn by the lack of solid plot and character development. So yeah, sadness.

Anyone seen Pandorum? I think my theatre's gonna get it this week and I want to know if it's any good.

(For the life of me, I don't know why we didn't get Zombieland or Cloudy With a Chance)

Serenity is made of win.
In fact, River has pure liquid win flowing through her blood vessels. She's just that awesome.

Theeen just a few days ago, I saw Zombieland (sorry, Akashayi, there was no getting around it!) and guess what my favorite movie is now? :P

I recently watched online to my displeasure Jennifer's body. which i knew was going to be bad, but I never expected it to be as bad as it was >_< I can't say I will ever like this movie.

I watched the 1999 alice in wonderland with whoopi Goldberg  as the cheshire cat and really liked it.

and a few friends of mine said they really liked where the wild things are, I have to go and see it myself, it was explained to me as fun nonsense. which i happen to enjoy.

I saw Whip It earlier this month, and it was very good.  The happy ending was for the most part too simplistic, but unavoidable, because otherwise the ending would have been a bit too depressing (and the rest of the movie nicely balanced that with realistic dramatic moments).  Ellen Page delivered a strong performance, and the roller derby scenes were nicely choreographed and filmed.  Overall, it was funny and a good "feel-good" type of movie  :).

yeah it was. he played a good hatter.

I watched paranormal activity this weekend and i have to say, I am glad i didn't pay for it. cause it was not the scariest movie ever I can say however that hit had it's moments. it is best watched with a spouse or mate. the first hour of the movie really made me want the end, and if you are a seasoned horror movie vet then you already know what is going to happen in the movie.

things i think that would have made it scarier would be:
`if it didn't tell you exactly what was happening as soon as the movie begane
`if the boyfriend wasn't asking for a beat down that entire movie
` the removal of most of the first hour of the movie.

I recently rented Adventureland, by the same guy who did Zombieland.  It even stars the same kid, though there are no zombies, it's about him working at a theme park over the summer.  Anyway it was a pretty great movie, but for completely different reasons than Zombieland.  If you liked Zombieland, check it out, even though there are no zombies!

I didn't even notice that coming out.  Just decent?  Is it a straight-up war movie, or is it about something else?

There's a great Iron Maiden song with that name btw.

I saw 'This is It' the other day and enjoyed it very much, even though I have never liked Michael Jackson before.  I have quite a bit of respect for him now, as an artist anyway.  His music isn't really my cup of tea exactly, but I have to admit it's good stuff, especially in comparison to a lot of other "pop".

Princess and the Frog is great ya'll.

I mean, don't expect it to be as good as your favorite Disney Classic. I didn't think it was as good as Lion King or Aladdin. But, it was definitely better than anything post-Tarzan (with exceptions of Lilo and New Groove).

Keith David is a treat, if nothing else he'll definitely rank in the top Disney villains of all time. In the words of another character from the film, "He's very charismatic."

Go see it, yo!

So my boyfriend is taking me to see A Single Man for our annivesary (it's New Years).
I am not really looking forward to it. It sounds so depressing. Part of me thinks he feels obligated to see it an "Important Gay Movie":-\
I saw Nine with him for Christmas. I didn't really like that either.  :(

Leana and i saw Avatar 3d yesterday, it was awesome!

It was pretty good.  I liked the 3-D effects in the forest, during transfer of minds from human to Na'vi bodies, and for the computer screens, and many of the action sequences were genuinely exciting and/or suspenseful.  However, the story only kept me minimally engaged, and some of the acting was fairly weak (especially Stephen Lang as the Colonel--fairly generic).  But it kept me entertained throughout, so I wasn't too disappointed.

I don't remember where this came up but I've just watched Band of Brothers all the way through again.  The stuff in between the action scenes really does make the action scenes so much better.  I mean, really, the whole entire film is just amazingly engaging and I think it does so with, admittedly, taking a few dramatic liberties, but without going over the top and either glorifying war or relying on lots of unrealistic situations, either in the combat or the dramatic sequences, to evoke emotion.  It feels like you're watching something between film of real events and a dramatic production.  Also I am astounded by the incredible accuracy of the costumes, props, and filming environments, especially considering the range of places the 506 ends up in.  It's just amazing.

I think it's my favorite film of all time.  If it counts as a film.
