D&D Online
« on: July 31, 2009, 08:16:13 pm »
Not sure if this belonged in Free Talk or pop culture but... whatever

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/PC-MMORPG-Game-Dungeons-Dragons,8370.html

'nuff said.

Come September I'll definitely have to try this out, but before then, has anybody had any experience with the game? (Meaning anybody in/known somebody in the beta?)

But what I can tell you is there will be a bit of a let down after the initial 'OMG!' of it all.

That's pretty par for the course on all MMO's so I'm prepared.

So, back in the day, I played the free trial. It follows a different game style with the narrated instances and focus on traditional d&d play. It was interesting, but...

Since it's going to become free to play very soon though, they're currently beta testing for that. I want to check it out more now since free to play is enticing but, I'll probably just poke around for a few weeks and lose interest. No real strong hopes.

That's probably going to be what I end up doing too. The only MMORPG that held my interest more than a month or so was FFXI... aaannnd KoL But that's hardly an MMO. Though It will entertain other around me for a while.

Slightly off-topic, but the one thing I've always wanted to do in a D&D game, if I was DM is this:

Players enter a large room lined with treasure chests. A note taped to the doorway says "One of these is not a Mimic."

Rawr for those of you still interested in this.

On September 9th D&D online goes for free. If your into D&D or just roleplay get an account and join find me on the Thelanis server.

Thursdays are roleplay nights in the Phoenix Tavern on the west end of the marketplace. Anyone interested in something new or just wants some good old hack and slash fun should come.

If you do come add the name Keaoden to your friends list. Thats my main.

I'll might just have to show up.

Today DDO for free goes live. Go now and get an account, role up some badass and join me on Thelanis.

I downloaded it and installed it today. I may or may not play all that much though. I'll see.

So has anyone got to play the free game yet? They have been advertising it online quite a bit lately, making fun of maple story. They're like "on other games you fight broccoli" and I'm like "maybe I like fighting broccoli!"  >:(
Anyways, I think that D&D lost all of credibilty on hardcore-ness when it came out with 4th Edition. No more instant kills. Nowadays, what is Orcus but a giant broccali anyway? But I could go on and on about my loathing for 4th Ed.  :-\
Has anybody played it? Is it worthwile? I am getting a new computer next week so I might want to get a free game or two.
I got 99 problems but a nymphomaniac jester girl ain't one.
