Keaoden: The dog is the exact same breed, it is only the coat that is different, which is why I'm asking for help in picking the "prettier" one. Haha, it's getting more and more difficult to choose.
(There is also a short-haired version of the Tervueren, but that version is bred for hard work only. I'm looking for a companion, not a slave, so that had to be singled out.)
Also, funny thing is, that the breed that most people mistake the belgian for... Is the collie! Even my friend thought I was wanting a black collie mix. Odd.
Charles: I know, German shepherds are lovely. <3 The reason I chose the Belgian over one of those is because while the German shepherd sheds pretty much all the time, the belgian does it twice a year... And I'm allergic. ^^;
I live in a cold climate compared to the rest of the world, but we have hot summers as well.
About getting a rescue-dog... Yes, I considered this, (my stepmother had a wonderful, gorgeous rescue-dog) and even went to my country's shelter-homepage looking at what they had. The problem(s) are that the shelter prefers to give out their dogs to stable -families,- not lonely students who live in an apartment by themselves. That, and stray dogs that have been treated badly may have all kinds of trauma and behavioural problems, and right now I'm not in the position to re-train someone who has the habit of biting everything it sees.
I also would like to get a puppy because that gives me the chance to train it exactly as I want from the beginning. Step by step. Puppies are like clay ready to be formed - an adult dog is like dry clay.
Two dogs is something I may consider later on, but I'm not going to put two large dogs in a smallish apartment.
Deatzh: Like I said, the dog under the coat is the exact same.
Pozf: Like I told charles, I want a puppy because that way I can train it as I wish from the start. That, and a puppy from a good kennel won't be traumatized by some animal-abuser.
Stats at the moment: Tervueren seems to be getting the most votes...
