It's interesting how many 313 references you found without mentioning Donald Duck's car. 8)

Oh, now I get it when I read somewhere in this forum that the ability might be something Suspiria used earlier already. Was the "No Spoilers" thing something Brion put into that post? Also that post seems to be gone now.

To clarify: The Instant Karma ability is closely related to the Retribution Doll Suspiria used to kill the Conclave. So when Crest got killed while the sword was inside his enemy, the ability was triggered.

I like that outcome! ^^ It was well thought-out.

It was probably one of my posts. I tend to analyze every frame of anime and webcomics, and as a result sometimes figure out some of why characters are able to do stuff before it is officially announced. I don't sweat it.

Oh, I didn't realize it came from that moment. I just figured since Suspiria is adding power to the sword, that's probably part of it.

Ah, so it wasn't Brion who added the "No spoilers" part then? It just meant that you were taking a wild guess and didn't actually refer to any actual power she used before?  :o Wow, that's a new experience for me. ;D

@Kiran: Stories with characters like Suspiria in them are difficult to tell without giving a Deus Ex Machina impression. I've stated it above:

Suspiria has been shaping the world like a god, so as a writer it must be really difficult to not make something look like a Deus Ex Machina. I mean, the characters are currently dealing with someone who has the powers to create random Deus Ex Machinas all over the place as if they were in the Matrix and they need to figure out how to deal with someone like that. I think it's legit to assume that Crest's sword received an ultimate attack because of that.

While I do prefer Maytag and Bernadette over Crest, I also do prefer Mary and Suspiria over the others, so I'm perfectly happy with this arc. :) Okay, Mopey is still alive, but you can't have everything. At least Glyph died. 8)

@bulma:
Regarding OP characters, I am currently watching The Disastrous Life of Saiki K on Netflix. That guy is more OP than One Punch Man, but the series is hilarious. They deal with it mostly by giving him weaknesses and silly characters to interact with.

Ok, wow, those are quite a bunch of interesting points. Especially the jealousy towards Suspiria is something I hadn't thought of before, even though Moby is all but upfront about it, saying that she couldn't help herself and then saying that Suspiria loves him. I guess it's because I never paid all that much attention to her, because cold, bitchy gothic types aren't my thing, especially since her very first appearance in the comic was SO cold: http://flipside.keenspot.com/comic.php?i=1046 (and the following page)
But if she gets to have character development, then I'm fine with it and might even like her eventually.

But I still think Suspiria had an influence on how the Phalanx acted, because the group knew how extremely outclassed they were, and when one of them committed suicide and another took his own eye, that should've been a red flag to anyone with survival instincts and/or at least half a working brain. I mean, they took heavy losses before the confrontation even started. If I were in their shoes I would've run the hell away and hide under a rock.
Which brings me straight to why I believe that there must've been some sort of training: The courage to stand your ground in the face of death. I would've been just like Crest when Moby pushed him over the edge.
But everyone - trained or not - should've felt some degree of terror and hopelessness in the face of suicide and reality-warping and Mary being back, at least since they had the sphere. And not casually exchange new information inside the pit room while being surrounded by potential enemies. Thus I believe that Suspiria was more powerful than the sphere.

When Moby threw herself at Crest (again) I didn't think it was all Suspiria either. That scene really did look like only a small push was required to spread her legs. 8)

If they even make it that far at all. Most of the conclave died because Suspiria has difficult emotions.

Blonde? http://flipside.keenspot.com/comic.php?i=2263  ;)

But yeah, I kinda suspected you might like Moby, because there was the occasional hint here and there. Which is why I'm wondering if you believe that she messed up the whole thing by herself or if Suspiria's powers forced her to snap despite the sphere. I made a thread about it, because there are quite a bunch of things that seemed off in her behavior, even if you include the fact that joining Phalanx makes you dumb. ::)

Also note that the anti magic sphere broke after the monster tilted the ground, so if the monster was created by Suspiria, then she did it despite the sphere being there. Therefore, she might've influenced Moby and the gang, too.

Eh, he has been alternating hope and despair on a page-by-page basis for the most part after the monster lifted the ground. :P
Right now I'm just sitting back and waiting until he's done with the curveballs.

I think on the next page the monster should stab Moby, like it stabbed Crest back then. Or maybe Regina. Yes, Crest would care about Regina more than about Moby I guess. We need more dead people.

@bulma:
Okay, that is an easier explanation indeed, but I am willing to give her the benefit of a doubt, because if you turn out to be right, then all the things I listed above make her and the others look SO bad. Until now I enjoyed saying that the Phalanx is just there to get worfed, but this screw-up would go above and beyond anything I dared to expect them to fail at.

@Umber:
Hahaha, I love the Teen Titans Go comparison. That seems to be all the Phalanx have left without the Conclave and without Kin (except for Qtalda of course).

I understand the appeal of a Discord server, but I think it's too chaotic to keep up a thread of conversation for days or even weeks. Since everything goes into one channel, any kind of smalltalk quickly makes deeper discussions get swamped away, especially when memes are included. Whenever I open Discord and go into any of the servers I subscribed to I see "100+ new messages", so I just ignore all of them. Discord is nice to have a quick smalltalk, like IRC back in the day.

Having Disqus or something similar below each new page would be a nice compromise between Discord and a forum, because you can always choose to respond to specific comments, so there is some order in there. Also Disqus makes it easier to see which page a comment refers to.

A forum is more suited for comics where each page creates 100s of responses, like OOTS, Erfworld or GrrlPower (though the latter doesn't have one), because in those cases a lot of insightful speculative threads are created in addition to reaction threads as well.

But something like a chat thread could easily be moved into a Discord channel.  ;)

Okaaaay... this is an interesting development. I am curious how Brion is going to get his characters out of this one. Maybe some help from the outside? Maybe it has something to do with the time-loop Melter can apparently do?
But even if that isn't the case, seeing that revival is possible in this world I can't rule out that Crest is actually going to die.

I'm going to stop reading your posts now. ::) Until I'm up-to-date with Gunnerkrigg.
I'm allergic to spoilers, regardless of whether or not I know the context.

Nobody? Not even Moby-fan sunphoenix? This is the thread where I contemplate that it might not have been her fault that she screwed up the mission in the worst and stupidest way possible.

That is a fascinating reveal. I didn't question the legendariness of this sword, simply because Bernadette has two super swords as well and because it has been established that magic can be anything you like.
