Except you can't prove it's a magical sword. If Bern had the other then maybe though.
But Grant sold his sword, and for money he bought booze and women for some long time it seems which killed his liver, so actually it would point that even one sword is a really pricy artifact to get.

Oh yeah. Good point.

I wonder... if someone FROM Marvallo was in this situation... would they just give up and let their father die? People keep on saying "Go get more money", so would their response just be, "I should have had more money?". Is this a country of people desperately collecting money at every turn, so that they'll be prepared?

I'm guessing there aren't banks or insurance companies so...

If your house burns down, if you fall sick, if you lose your savings for whatever reason... You're just out of luck? That's it?

That seems like such a nerve wracking way to live.

"We're a decent neighborhood"? Does that imply that non-decent neighborhoods don't have the Enforcers?

This page is deeply satisfying though.

I have no idea if Bern would view it this way but...

Refusal to help someone who's dying can be considered 'murder' in a way. So, threatening the healer with violence in order to stop her from 'murdering' her father by letting him die... that might just be okay in Bern's eyes.

Yet somehow, I bet Maytag could do it.

I really hope no one comes to 'save' Bern from this situation. I want to see what she does, simply because I think finding a way to get 800 gold in 15 minutes while still abiding by her moral code would be really, really difficult. If she sticks to her moral code, her father dies. But if she loses her moral code for money... that might be even worse.

At the very least I don't think Bernadette knows either. Firstly, she probably isn't the 'one other person' May mentioned, because she isn't actually there and the ring probably isn't turned on.

Secondly, May and Bern have kept many secrets from each other before. And I can't imagine Maytag approaching Bern after a few years and going, "Hey Bern, by the way, my entire personality for the past few years has been an act. I've been lying to you and everyone else constantly. Yeah. You still love me, right?"

Thirdly, there's a moment in Book Zero where Bern tells May to not put on her suit before she goes out on the town. If Bern knew about May's act, that comment would have been pointless. (However, May could have told Bern later, like in the six month gap between Book Zero and Book One).

Is this the truth? Or... some sort of plan?

There are definitely a few situations where Shy!Maytag made things more inconvenient. Like getting tortured by Moss, or at least when Voulger stripped her in the street. I mean... if Bern hadn't showed up... would she have pretended to weak and scared while Crest getting killed for her?

Hm... So Bernadette fell in love with Blackbird, ran off when Clairen slept with her, kept the scar (given to her by Blackbird) for years, spent the night at Blackbird's place, got kissed and confessed to by her... and only then admitted she had a girlfriend, and is now travelling with Blackbird after all of that. It doesn't exactly paint a 'knightly' picture, which is what Bern always seems to be aspiring to be.

Maybe the reason Bern is keeping quiet has less to do with how Maytag would react, and more to do with how it makes Bern look to admit all of that stuff.

Of course, keeping all of it a secret just makes it all look worse but... Bern herself has admitted she has a bad habit of keeping things to herself.

Hm, I dunno. They're both facing 'unrequited loves from their past'. I can see Regina coming onto Maytag, May turning her down and really hurting her feelings, all for her newfound faithfulness to Bern.

If May then later found out that Bern cheated on her with Blackbird, and that her friendship with Regina had been ruined for nothing then... well, wouldn't even Maytag be a bit bothered?

I'd like to see Crest and Regina being awkward and blushing around each other.

That.... kind of made my jaw drop. She looks so different! And, I've been noticing this for the past couple of pages but, she looks awfully tired lately... I'm worried that something very, very bad is going to, or is in the process of, happening to her...

Hey, if it weren't for Crest then Bern would've died in that fight against Bloody Mary. Even though Vajra did all the work... without Crest, she would've been far too afraid to even try.

Crest is useful when needed. The problem is... he's rarely needed.

So? As long as the flower isn't there, Suspiria, Glyph, Moss and Fata Morgana can do something. I don't see the flower. Therefore, no matter what attacks or spells he might know, I doubt it would be enough to stand up to those four combined.

I'm not seeing the giant flower anymore. Therefore, couldn't any one of our multiple magic users strike Escher down now? Or, failing that, I'm assuming someone will leap in front of Bern as an act of self sacrifice. I'm thinking Glyph for some reason.

Screw this, "just a child's technique" stuff. The Split Rose works and there's no need for Bern to change styles. Not when she can pull of stuff like that.

...Why not just have May, Crest, Moss and Fata hold fort for like... five minutes while Suspiria and Bern go a short distance away? Suspiria can cast Diamond Cutter on Bern's blades, and then they'll slice right through the stupid stick.

Well... I'm siding with Moss and Fata. Their group isn't really built for Maytag's strategy. I don't think they can take the abuse needed to be 'shields' of any sort. And even so, couldn't Danzig just send them flying straight into Bern? They're not real pillars.

Wow. Something about Bernadette's pose in the second to last panel really strikes me as very... elegant and pretty somehow.

Oh, and, way to go Crest. He's just getting more and more heroic, huh?

Maytag deals well with the crazies though. I wouldn't be surprised if she and Fata became best friends soon-ish.

I'm more interested in what the hell Moss did to earn Fata Morgana's loyalty. It doesn't strike me as something he'd normally be able to accomplish.

Why do years of research yourself when someone's already done the hard work for you *lol*

Plus Seraph may have found a few things he hadn't or been able to access a few archives and places that Danzig didn't have access to.

...Good point.

Something strikes me as odd about Moss's behaviour though. Why is he trying so hard to sleep with Maytag? What's the point? I know he made a pass at her before, in Book 0, but that was because he was lonely and thought she was easy. Forcing her to sleep with him doesn't really fit. And when she turned him down he didn't seem vengeful about it. Plus, they parted on extremely good terms. So... he's either torturing her for the hell of it, no complex reason needed, or... something else we don't know about?

Assuming that this is actually Moss. It could just be Fata Morgana. Again.

He was only a new level 2 sorcerer when he left her but he's been with his uncle for 6 months and it wouldn't surprise me if he could train up fairly fast under such a sorcerer.

If his uncle was that great of a sorcerer, why would he need Seraph in the first place?

Maytag doesn't have her suit, but doesn't she still have her D-bag? If it's absorbed into her body, there's no reason to leave it somewhere just because she's taking a bath. And it seems like the type of the thing that would be difficult to remove from a person forcibly.

57
It's very fucked up in so many ways, but it's really good and I would recommend it strongly. *I'd read the manga before watching it though*

Hmm... Manga it is then.

If you can stomach some of the more disturbing content, (and are willing to,) it seemed like one of those shows that would get better as the series progressed.

I've already heard it's horribly violent, and blood and gore doesn't bother me. Besides, how bad could it possibly be?

58
Is it seriously that bad? Everyone I know that has watched it highly reccommends Elfen Lied.

I would bet that Glyph is working with them. It's too much of a coincidence that the B&B they stay at for the night just happens to hold a bunch of people working for/related to the Thin Man.
