It takes little courage, or strength to die for an ideal.. you don't have to face the consequences of that choice, but few are the souls with the forthrightness and resilience to live for an ideal. Because one's principles and actions must continually, day-by-day, defend and uphold that ideal... constantly questioning are you staying true... despite hardship and trail to your ideals and morals!

It takes courage to live for a purpose, dying for a cause is easy.

Bravo!
Would someone PLEASE explain this concept to the damn Muslim extremists?! Make a cartoon if you have to... er maybe not.
Actually, the same goes for the extremists of other religions as well. You know who you are.

Regardless if what Polly says next, her reason is that she's convinced herself it's totally her fault that Bern's in prison. That's not really true, but in Polly's mind, there's no doubt. Not only that, but of course Polly still has some deep feelings for Bern and she wants to make up for transgressions against Bern both new and old. It's not a rational point-of-view, but that's what's driving her to such an irrational decision.

Also, sex scenes with Polly...... Hmmmmm....
Have I mentioned that I think she's one of the hottest characters in the story?

So now Bern will have to accept doing 2 nights! Polly will just have made things even worse for her.

I disagree. I think Bern's smart enough to realize that Polly will just keep upping the ante by absurd amounts and give in at this point. Even if not, I'm sure Polly will end up pointing it out.

By the way, I think this conversation has been going on long enough. Put an end to it already.

Here, I agree. This conversation is an entire chapter already.

Also Polly sex scene?  ;D :D :-[

Theory - The warden is a relative of Bern's, hoping to make her into a better warrior.

An interesting postulation... we have been told Nothing of Bern's mother, but the warden seems too young, at least to me, to be her mother.

Probably not her mother. But what about a sister? Or a half-sister?

Ok Bern, if you don't freaking grow a backbone and take on this challenge yourself, I'm going to be very disappointed with your weakness. Seriously, how does Polly bailing out Bern on everything help Bern's character development. She's a little kid that Polly is babysitting.

Well. With Bern turning down option C and option B being revealed as being basically a trap I guess that amounts to either option A or Bern will turn down the offer. As someone already pointed out, turning down the offer is probably the most sensible option since Polly will be able to get out before long and maybe find some way to bail her out from the outside - If a sentence can be paid off in cash, Maytag will be able to pay it if she can accomplish the Thinman's task.

I have a feeling that she's probably going to go with option A though.

You know, it kind of looks like the warden wanted Bern to be a stripper...  ;)
I don't think it's going to be as tame a stripping, but I think you're on the right track. I have a feeling Polly is going to have a part in this as well....

If I'm right, Bern's going to have to decide if it's worth sacrificing her decency and her monogamous  devotion to Maytag to get out of prison.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that she's not just there to rub it in. She's got a proposal in mind for Bern to get her out of the situation she's in. I have little doubt that it's not going to be easy though.
Why would she be helping Bern? I would guess that she's intrigued. Poly clearly believes Bern can hold her own in a fight so she probably thinks that there's some kind of task Bern could do that would at least be entertaining regardless of the outcome.

Maybe even an all-or-nothing situation where Bern either goes free (and Poly too I hope) or stays much longer.

Can't say I can fault Bern. Polly is pretty damn awesome and (in my opinion) even more beautiful than Maytag.

Crest: Hey Mom, I should probably tell you; I have some good news and some bad news.
First the good news! I have a really amazing girlfriend and she's a powerful sorceress to boot!
The bad news is that she's turned into a murderous demonic monster and I have to go find her and possibly lead her into a trap. :(

Either way though, I'm sure brainwashing magic isn't too uncommon (but surely illegal everywhere). Q'Talda's companions and even "Suspira's parents" could have all been brainwashed and led to believe a lie. Considering that Crest and Suspira are the only survivors of Q'Talda's confession, it would make sense to try to clear the Conclave of accusations of murder from the only surviving still-human witness. Even if he doesn't buy it, they can probably (try to) capture him and brainwash him too. They won't be able to do the same to Suspira, but it'll be easy to discredit her if she tries to make an announcement.

See? Crest agrees with me. Go Crest!

All good points. One more: we don't even have any real assurance that this really IS Q'Talda.

It could have been a high-level illusion. I would imagine that a powerful enough illusion could make it feel like you were being controlled and being made to say things you don't want to. If that were the case, it probably would not matter if Q'Talda were physically there or not. She was there by proxy and would likely have felt the full effects of such an illusion. If the conclave WAS being controlled, then does that mean Suspira caused Q'Talda to release the flesh-eating microbes which she knew would then rebound onto the conclave?? That's big because it would make Suspira the murderer here. Nope nope nope sticking with the illusion theory.

Unless there's some kind of verbal gymnastics involved, Q'talda's either lying now or she lied to Suspira, but it's pretty clear on page 15 of chapter 38, she states quite plainly that she killed Suspira's parents and erased her memories to hide it.

Maybe the reasons are not what Crest thinks, but either she killed Suspira's parents as Crest says or she lied to Suspira (which she had no real reason to do at the time).

Also, in spite of her Dolly Pardon hairdo, I think Moby looks great.

Ah-ha!! It's what's-her-name bandage lady amIright?! Makes total sense that a flesh-eating microbe won't harm someone with no flesh as many have suspected that she had.

Also, I hope that Crest and Suspira get back together. It seems like a big waste to lose that relationship.

I could be wrong here, but I've so far gotten the impression that Lehm is not the conman type, despite the fact that he operates on shaky if not outrageous moral and legal grounds. I think that the way he works is because (a) He truly believes his work is extremely important, (b) there may be those in the authorities that do not want his discovery to be known and (c) even though he probably considers that "the ends justify the means" in many of his "experiments", the authorities and general public usually don't share that sentiment.

If he can give her a partial payment first, she she be able to afford bailing out Bern and her sexy friend from Marvallo and probably have enough left over to buy her talk-show.

Except she doesn't yet know what Bern and Penny are up to - the last she heard from Bern, Bern was staying a while to help get dad back on the proverbial straight and narrow.

This is true. I would think if wouldn't take long for her to find out once she leaves the Thin Man's lair and is unable to reach her via the communication device she has. No doubt she'll either go there herself or (if not allowed to because of her task) send someone to find out and report back. That's why I'm hoping she'll get an advance payment as I have a feeling things are just going to get worse and worse for Bern.

Edit: Well, looks like Lehm actually has the funds. Guess he means "you didn't ask me what it is I wanted you to do, what the risks are, or why it's WORTH 20 million."

Agreed. She's all but agreed to help Lehm if he can prove he has at least 50M in gold, but so far has no idea what it is she needs to help him with (or DOES she? Hmmmmm..)

In other developments, I'm very interested in what's going to happen when Suspira catches up with Lehm. Will May still be there? Will someone be able to talk her down or will there be a big battle.

May's got the street smarts of 100 street-rats. And she's got the poker-face to pull this off. If Lehm does let her go, not only will May trust him more, he's going to respect her savvy-ness that much more as well. Well played!

LOL. Polly's the "Bowler"... :)

...needs more skulls though.

Very underrated movie IMO. I still think of it before Shrek when I hear the song "All-Star"

I wonder how the Colosseum deals with a sorcerer/sorceress. Would they be allowed to use a weapon and sorcery or would they have to have to choose between one or the other?

Polly already said that sorcery isn't allowed, but magic weapons are. If the sorcerer/sorceress doesn't have an enchanted weapon or know how to enchant a weapon, they're going to have a tough time.

... ...

What is WRONG with people today!!!

Indian Village Court Orders Gang-Rape Sentence!

..sometimes, I'm really ashamed to be called 'human'.

What's wrong is that those people are still stuck in an archaic and savage time culturally. Even in the USA, it was only recently that women have gained all the same rights as men. For these "elders", for most of their lives, women were always someone's property and not treated like a person. I'm not excusing their actions (which are horrendous and vile), it's just that their actions are not that unexpected.

Hmm, it seems Bloody Mary must have eaten page 21

I don't think there is any proof that Thin Man did this to Suspera. In fact, it seems like he needs some time with his subjects to "modify" them. At least that was the case with Bloody Mary. What happened to Suspera may have nothing to do with him.  I suspect that when she confronts him, he will offer her a "cure" for her condition.

In spite of whatever has happened to her, she still seems to care about Crest and it seems unlikely she would put him in harms way so recklessly. She doesn't look alarmed either. I'm pretty sure she already has a plan to deal with this situation. On a side note, it seems like the flesh-eating bacteria cause no pain to the victim as none of the mages nor even Crest seems to be in any kind of pain. I suppose nerve endings are simply destroyed so quickly, that no pain response is generated.

Well, at least we know that there's still something of original Suspira in there.
If Crest is able to help her get "cured" that's going to earn him some serious nookie-points!

Is she naked except for her chest? There's nothing hanging on or covering her hips, and even thongs have that.

I think so. That's actually the main reason Crest is so freaked out. You'll notice he's not looking down... XD

Based on the answer he received in the 2nd panel, I think that Crest was meant to say "Did we miss it?" Rather than "Did we make it?"
