Flipside Discussion / New Moderators

Anyone interested in being a moderator for the new forum?  And if so, which sections would you be interested in moderating?

How's the new banner?  I took the one from the old forum and modified it a bit.  Like this one better?

Also, there are some new themes available now, which you can check out if you look under "profile," and then "Look and Layout Preferences."  The sexy Maytag header is still available on a different theme.

Was that back when you thought Sonika had gone MIA?

Yep.

As you wished, I brought the old smileys back!  How do you like that?

Yes.  I edited the post to include a list of characters that you can ask.

Flipside Discussion / Ask Maytag: Questions Thread III
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:58:13 am »
This is just like the character interviews, except the answers show up as vote incentives every day.

You may ask Maytag any question you want! It can be about the politics and pop culture of our real world, or about something in Iscariot, or philosophy in general, advice, or anything about Maytag herself and the people she knows. Funny or serious questions are OK!

You may can also ask the following characters questions:

Bernadette
Crest
Suspiria
Glyph
Umber
Sierra
Orransong
Bloody Mary
Kindred
Qtalda
Vajra

Some guidelines:
1. Keep your question to no more than 1 paragraph, and preferably as concise as possible. Your question may be skipped if it is too wordy.
2. Try to make it not too similar to other recent questions, or it may be passed over due to redundancy.
3. Watch your grammar and spelling. You don't have to be perfect, but at least put a little effort into them.

That's about it. Remember that unlike the interviews, you can ask as many questions to Maytag as you want, and even ask follow up questions to questions that have already been answered. Have fun!

Yeah, I can work on making a new skin with a different header image.

Yeah, the reason I am using 1.1.4 is because I set this forum up over a year ago... I guess I should upgrade it, but not exactly sure how.

Pretty much.  Most of the areas from the old forum are used.

Yeah, the user titles have already been changed to reflect the ones from the vBulletin forum.

Yeah, I should probably change the icons.

Sorry... those converters seem like a big headache to me!  I don't know if I want to mess with them...

Artist's Den / Rules and Guidelines for "Artists' Den"
« on: March 16, 2009, 01:30:31 pm »
Welcome to the Flipside Forums! These are the rules, make sure to read these before posting. They are subject to change, and new rules may be added when necessary.

General Forum Rules

I. Read the Rules For Each Sub-Forum Specifically Before Posting
Each sub-forum has it's own posted rules, and these may differ depending on the sub forum. Make sure to read the rules to a specific sub-forum before you post there. If a specific section has a rule which contradicts one of the general forum rules, then follow the specific rule for that section.

II. Treat Others With Respect
Make your best effort to get along and treat others respectfully. Don't cause trouble.

III. Contribute Constructively To Threads
When you contribute to a thread, try to stay on-topic. Be careful not to take threads on tangents that might cause the thread to be derailed. Try to make sure your post contributes something, it is not acceptable to spam threads simply to pad your post count.

IV. Be Careful Posting Offensive Images
Do not directly post images that might be seen as offensive, such as nudity.  However, it is okay to link to them, as long as you specifically describe the offensive content of your image. *(special exception for this forum, see below)

General Forum Guidelines

I. Create Appropriate Threads
Try to create threads in the appropriate section.

II. Forum Language
Please make an effort to keep your posts legible and coherent. Do not overuse "internet speak" or shorthand like "how r u". Swearing is okay, as long as it is not excessive. Some sections of the forum are more leniant about these guidelines than others.

III. How Do I Get An Avatar?
Just click on User CP, Edit Avatar, and upload it from your computer. Images can be as large as 100x100.

IV. How Do I Switch The Forum's Appearance?
There are several templates you can use, on the bottom left corner of the page. The newest one is "Flipside 2.0"

V. Use the Report Button
There is a "Report Bad Post" button on the top right corner of each post. If you feel that a person is breaking the rules, please hit the report button and type a short description of the problem. Please also use this to report spam.

VI. Send Me A PM
If something is bothering you about the forums, or a particular member is rubbing you the wrong way, send me a PM directly and I will be happy to assist you.

Specific Rules for "Artists' Den"

I. Nudity and Work Safe Images
Although rule IV says you may not directly post nudity, it is okay in this section as long as your thread is marked NSFW, and clearly indicates what type of offensive content it will contain.  For example: "Mr. X's Art Thread!  NSFW (nudity)"  If your thread is named that way, it would be okay to post any kind of nudity, but not okay to post any kind of sexual acts, because the viewers may not expect that.  Lets say you wanted to post your tentacle rape art, then you'd have to label your thread like so: "Mr. X's Art Thread!  NSFW (tentacle rape)"  In other words, your thread must be clearly labeled so that the people clicking on it know what they are getting into.

II. Civility
You are expected to be respectful here, just like all the other forums, but joking around is okay as long as it is not too mean spirited.

III. Language Rules
Swearing is fine, as long as it is not over-the-top.  But please make an effort to use proper grammar and spelling, and to post intelligently.

Specific Guidelines for "Artists' Den"

I. What is An Appropriate Topic To Start A Thread About?
You may plug any piece of art or writing that you did, but remember that by posting you have opened yourself up to critique.  However, said criticism should be constructive, and no one is allowed to just blatantly insult you.

II. What is Not An Appropriate Topic To Start A Thread About?
Art that haven't done, but that you like.  That belongs in the "Pop Culture" forum.

Specific Rules for "Free Talk"

I. Lax Thread Posting
You are pretty much allowed to post whatever type of thread you want, as long as it is not spam.  However, new members, please don't post an introduction thread.  There is already a thread called "The Flipside Forum Member Roster," specifically for introduction posts.

II. Civility
You are expected to be respectful here, just like all the other forums, but joking around is okay as long as it is not too mean spirited.

III. Lax Language Rules
Swearing is fine, as long as it is not over-the-top.  Also, we aren't as picky here about your language, so you can do things like use "internet speak."

Specific Guidelines for "Free Talk"

I. Just Have Fun
This forum is generally less moderated than the other forums.  So you can relax and act however you want.  As long as you don't egregiously violate the rules, you should be ok.  But remember, certain things, like harassing forum members and blatant spam, are still 100% not acceptable.

Flipside Discussion / What do you think of the new forum?
« on: March 16, 2009, 01:00:49 pm »
Unfortunately, we had to move from our vBulletin forum.  Sonika, who has been hosting our forum until now, is no longer in a position to keep hosting it, so I needed to start my own forum on this server.  I decided to just go with a free forum, and that means I wasn't able to transfer over the old database, or any of the discussions from that forum.  Sorry about that!

So this forum will be a new start!  Please register for this forum soon, as the old one will be disappearing shortly!

Any comments about the new forum?  Please feel free to share them here.

Uh oh! Will the truth come out? Will there be surprises? What will happen? I'm so nervous!

Specific Rules for "Comic Discussion"

I. "Chapter X: Discussion" Threads
In particular, you are expected to treat others with the utmost respect in this thread.  It should feel like a pleasant and welcoming place to post for all newcomers.  Anyone who is rude in this thread may quickly find themselves losing their posting privileges in this sub-forum.

Please keep all posts in this thread on-topic.  And although there may be moral issues happening in the comic that you may want to discuss, this is NOT a thread for debate.  If you want to get in depth about specific political/moral issues, please make a separate thread!

II. "Question Threads"
These are threads for the interview section and "Maytag's Corner."  Please restrict your posts in these threads to questions only, as outlined by the guidelines at the beginning of the thread.  Do not reply to others.

III. Language
In this particular section of the forum, please keep swearing to a minimum.  Also, please make your best effort to use proper grammar and spelling, and to sound coherent in your posts.

Specific Guidelines for "Comic Discussion"

I. What is An Appropriate Topic To Start A Thread About?
Any topic which pertains to the comic whatsoever is appropriate to make a post about in this section.  If you have a specific question to me, sometimes it may be more appropriate to just email me or send me a PM.  Use your own discretion.  Also, it is okay to make threads about any aspect of this website, whether it be the gallery/interviews/secret sections or the forums themselves.

II. What isn't an Appropriate Topic?
Don't make a post commenting about the current page/chapter, you can do that in the "Chapter X: Discussion" Thread.  However it is perfectly okay to make threads about past chapters.  Don't make things like introduction threads.  Don't make a thread asking me technical questions like what materials I use to make the comic.
