All choices suck... I wouldn't want option A, but it's the only one where everyone gets to remain physically intact and alive. But a woman would have to be psychologically strong, or plain callous in some way in order to deal with such an experience for the rest of her life.

I don't think any option should be taken. Bern needs to own the audience's attention- become the main reason why anyone watches. She could offer more than an ordinary fight, and be the misfit that challenges the system. ..But I think I'm thinking too much about the movie Gladiator. I'll have to wait and see how differently this plays out.

It would just be cool to see her become an anomaly that the colosseum has difficulty controlling.

Can't Maytag give it a running start and launch herself through the door, sending herself into a gymnastic style roll where momentum carries her forward?
Or maybe she can be strapped to a skateboard and sent in at a high enough speed where she can coast to the center?

Lol, I know that can't be the way this room works. I guess Lehm is just going to have to find a strong soul who has recovered from PTSD or some similar debilitating fear(s). Coping skills, ftw.

I have to say that I really GET this. As someone who started out as basically an unsocialized, clueless robot, choosing a personality I liked and then becoming that person was how I first started to come out of my private world. At first it was an act I put on, but gradually it did become the real me. If I hadn't strove to become a different person, I'd still be a cave-dwelling sociopath and not ROSSTIN MURPHY, GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER! But, you know, if I need to I can put on an effort of will and become that robot again. (Which can be really useful sometimes.)

I'd have to say a) Maytag probably underestimates how much of this "mask" thing has become who she really is.
b) I'm surprised that she would think it was a good idea to reveal this in the way she did. Making a careful study of human nature was one of the things that made her decide to put on this act. She should have predicted that people would be repulsed and just never mentioned this fact. Or at least told the story in a different way.

Anyway, I'm 100% in defense of Maytag. She was depressed and felt unlikeable. She found something she wanted to be. And she became it, and people loved her. Any bullshit you have to say about "be yourself" or "putting on an act is a lie"... you probably just don't know what it's like to feel alienated in that am-I-a-human-being way.

Haha. I thought cheating was the worst kind of lying.

I can relate to May. So I sympathize. Something about who we are deep down inside drives us to be the way they are. If there is a hidden self, then it is meant to be protected, and shared only with those who deserve full trust. It's an honor to really know someone, and I think that's why some people are upset with May. But it's up to her to do what's best for herself. She may try changing, but I do believe that most of us have some things about ourselves that just won't change, or are very difficult to change. And I feel those things will help us see the truth of who she really is.

After this story, I've been curious about Maytag's mom and what she was involved in. What could that man at the orphanage have known about Maytag's mother that would inspire him to say to her child, "In my opinion, she's abandoned you. Probably because she thinks you're a freak."

I wonder if Maytag is the product of some bigger scheme, like how Bloody Mary was. Is it somehow related to the person the guy in this page was reminded of?:

I know Maytag has emotions. She's not so empty. Emotions are strong motivators for people behaving the way we do. Her mother made a positive impression on her. To the point where she wanted to try emulating her. I suspect foul play in her mother's disappearance, the perpetrator being perhaps the same reason Maytag/Veranda was born an unusual baby.

I also believe Bern really does know a lot. Evidence being that Maytag has given up a big part of herself (encouraging likability through promiscuity) to make their relationship exclusive an one. Bern even knew all along about that, yet allowed May to make the decision to change instead of demanding it of her.

Haha, I'm thinking too much. I rarely frequent to forums, so there. My backlog of ideas.. Guess I've been intrigued as to where Maytag's life is heading.
I also like how this comic incites people to share their views on society and behavior.

Aw! I like today's page. It reminds me of my husband and I skyping when he's deployed. I wish we had portals so he could come home every night... Or so I could go visit him wherever his cursed ship takes him. I'd set a portal up right inside his rack(bed). lol :D

It's just a name that came out of my head, but maybe I was unconsciously influenced by you.  You could have had a part in naming a character!  A minor one, but still...!

Seems lonely in the shadows.  You should come out more often!

Lol. I like to thinking that my name influenced you  :P

I should come out more often. Lately I've been on the forum, or under my car. My neon has special needs.. lol.

Lovely work.  I'd almost forgotten about these images.

Thank you.

Yeah, I began working on this during a time my life was going through a lot of changes. This pic was something I had grown out of. But I had a stubbornness to see it finished, even though I'd go without working on it for long periods of time. I have way too many pictures that have died the way this one almost did.

Yet no matter what, even if I did a few minutes here and there, they eventually added up to this. I've learned a lot about what I need to improve on if I'm to continue working on art. That alone, made it all worthwhile to me.

I like the proportions, the vibrant colours and the scene in general, it gives a warm and fuzzy cosy feeling all inside :)

Thank you! Most of this was finished in my very own, very first, dwelling... away from ma and pa. Parts of it was also finished in a coffee shop! Lol. It has benefited from the fuzzy cozy feelings of both places  :-*

I've held onto this forever and just thought I should post it here so people can see where the original drawings are today.
This has been a major exercise in learning how to compose a background. Can't say I'd make another like it as far as the symmetry goes. But this was good practice, nonetheless.

I have it on my desktop as a 1440 wide background, but photobucket won't let me have the image that size.
The full size is here on Deviantart.

btw, thank you all who have commented on it. I hope you all like how it turns out..

OMFG! .. Why does Bern wear so many clothes?

Anywho. I'm just about done with the characters (besides their faces.. I'm gonna prettify those later)
It's time for me to start working on the background. All I know is that it's going to be epic.

Click on the pic for the Deviantart view.

There's a bar in Chicago called "The Exit" with "Bondage night" on Thursdays.

Curiosity prompted me to view the proceedings thereof. Tho I did not partake.

The great thing about the military is the shape you get in. I wish I could go back to when I could run a 14 minute 2 mile and was 50lbs lighter and had the first six pack I had in my life.  :(

Those were the days...  :(

Daw... My husband has gained 30 pounds since joining the Navy. Me? I've always been 110-120 soaking wet. I've seen MANY different body types showering in the Navy. One lady was as little as I, even though she had a child and I didn't. She had a six-pack, I didn't. So it all depends on what you've had go on in your life, how active you are, and how important having a certain body type is to you.

Whatever you're most comfortable with is best. Me? I eat slowly until my tummy says 'no more!' That doesn't mean I'm in shape tho. I danced to 'Cotton Eye Joe' last weekend and my legs hurt for days..!

Brion! I can't believe you'd hit on underage children like that. Lolita complex, much?

I just discussed with a coworker on how to cook lobsters today. We both agreed that they are easy, and tasty... albeit expensive!

I bet you look mucho sexy in a uniform!  :-*

Yessum! Indeedy I did. I made it to the week of training where they fitted me for all the different types of uniforms... while the sailor uniforms were as white as you could get, and garrison hats were in style.

BUT... say goodbye to those traditional whites. The Navy has now updated their uniforms to tan shirts and black pants, with cunt caps. I would NOT look sexy in that!

I am not wearing anything sexay.. as the person I need to impress is floating around the Mediterranean...and would die of happy explosion even if he saw me in a moo moo right now.

XD Razzly can go for a ride on my bike anytime, anywhere.

As for everyone else..
Damn. Maybe I should put a kilt on my bike. Or at least have someone wear one on my bike. Yet the imagery of kilts flapping away in the wind, and what that must reveal.. does not appeal to me  ::)

btw.. why am I not seeing the kilt picture? :(
