Anyone remember Ash from Book Zero?

That was my thought as well. Although it could be a new character too.

Good going, Brion. Stuff like this is why I keep reading Flipside after all these years.

So, back to the story... Is Crest finally going to get laid?!

Why is the old dude not butt naked like everyone else?
If we're doing this, we might as well go all the way and have wrinkly old man nutsack scrape all over the floor.

The point is to attract spectators.

Well this is silly, the swords are doing all the work for her. All she has to do is block.

You've made the swords too powerful, Brion. At most they should absorb a fraction of the magical energy depending on how well the attack is blocked, which would then increase the sword's attack power, or something, so Bern would have to actually strike her foes.

So now Bern will have to accept doing 2 nights! Polly will just have made things even worse for her.

By the way, I think this conversation has been going on long enough. Put an end to it already.

Whew! Well, sacrificing an eye obviously isn't a good idea, since it will lower her chance to win her rank-up match (and subsequent matches). Being a sex slave for a few hours isn't so bad if there's no violence and protection against pregnancy and STDs is used, but Bern probably doesn't agree with me. Let's see what the third option is!

There is a character from Book 0 that is supposed to make an appearance that hasn't yet, right?

Maybe that's who Bernadette will have to fight.

Good thinking! My guess is it's Ashley.

Backed it for 60 bucks! Even though I don't really care about printed books, I feel like I owe Brion something for the hours of enjoyment he's provided me.

If you're going to use your sword as a blunt weapon, buy yourself a club or something.

The problem with a Suspiria/Crest romance is that Crest will always be a (poor) replacement for Kin in Suspiria's eyes, even if she denies it for a while.

Also, their hairstyles are too similar.    :D

Brion asked:
"So this chapter's almost over... what do you all think of the choice I made with it?"

I think you did the right thing. The poker stuff was interesting.

By the way, I don't really like Maytag's current outfit, the previous ones were sexier.

By the way Brion, I absolutely love the way you drew Maytag's face in the next-to-last panel. So awesome!

Even the best poker player in the world wants to get in Maytag's pants. That's how popular Maytag's pants are!

SPOILERS BELOW:

Well, then, no, it doesn't look like Crest has much of a chance. Even if Maytag and Bernadette were to split up, which is unlikely but possible, I don't think Maytag has any real romantic feelings for Crest. She likes him, but she likes lots of people.

That said, if Maytag's going to cheat on Bernadette with a character that's already appeared in the comic, Crest is a good bet, IMO.

Hello and welcome. :) Flipside is great, and it keeps getting better!

Crest is not the main character, but he is one of the main characters, although he's a bit less important than Maytag and Bernadette. As to whether he has a chance with Maytag, are you sure you want a spoiler? I mean, you'll know soon enough if you keep reading.

Hey Brion, congrats on the switch.

You might want to tell the Keenspot webmaster to add Flipside to Keenspot's main page (and make it bold, since Flipside is updated frequently). Also, s/he should put you on top of the news spot, since you're... new.

Flipside Discussion / Re: The Criticism Thread
« on: February 16, 2011, 11:09:24 pm »
Hi Brion, I love Flipside, and I adore Maytag.

If I had to criticize one thing about Flipside, it's that the story moves too slowly. I'm not sure how to explain it, exactly, it's just this feeling I have that each page should move the story at least a certain... amount, and in Flipside that's often not the case. I'm no writer, so I can't actually give you any advice, except point you to a webcomic that I think does this better than Flipside, so that you can hopefully analyze and understand the difference. That comic is Girl Genius. It's not a perfect comic, and in some ways Flipside is superior, but I very seldom get a feeling of, "Geez, has anything even happened this week?" when reading GG, whereas I feel it pretty often when reading Flipside, especially since the Warp Box arc began.

Flipside Discussion / Re: Ask Maytag: Questions Thread III
« on: February 15, 2010, 08:23:41 pm »
Two questions for Maytag:

1) Would you say you care about the truth for its own sake, or do you only care about the truth as a means to achieve your goals? When talking to Mary you said, "My philosophy is to accept the facts in front of you, no matter how terrible, because quick acceptance allows you the best possible mindset for dealing with any situation." This is true for most situations, but not all of them. For example, a person without much self-confidence might prefer not to learn that some people have a poor opinion of him, because this would make him even less confident, which might in turn have a negative effect on his relations with other people. A person like that, who often allows himself small amounts of self-deception when he thinks it will lead to a better outcome, would consider truth to be an instrumental value, that is, something that he cares about only because it helps him achieve the things he really desires, as opposed to someone who considers truth a terminal value, that is, something that he really, fundamentally desires for its own sake. What about you, May, is truth an instrumental or a terminal value for you?

Wow, my ultra-long question actually got an answer (and a pretty good one at that).  ;D Thanks May!

From what I recall I think we eventually worked out that Maytag didn't sleep with him because it was likely that he'd tell Bern.  It was sort of hinted at by Maytag in an interview but the relationship between her and Bern didn't come out 'till later so she couldn't tell us outright.  I think either Brion confirmed it in the old forums at some point or Maytag told the whole story in an Ask Maytag vote incentive.

Brion confirmed it here: http://www.flipsidecomics.com/forum/index.php?topic=134.0
