more often than not, the quality of the photos is going to be awful.

Only because it's a typical dribble shape, not a typical smear shape.
Still...a little double meaning is always good in art!

i have a good camera, but no SD card slot on my laptop :-\
it's really annoying, and i could scan them i guess.
perhaps i should force myself to set up a new DeviantArt account :P

Well, I didn't say there was anything wrong with your camera, it's just that the pictures are quite dark, maybe take the photos lying down on a flat surface with extra lighting in the form of a desktop lamp or sunlight?

If you can't connect the camera to the computer via cable, WTF. Also, for your future photography needs, I'd reccomend getting an external card reader anyway - I have one, saves me carrying around 5 cables and two readers(one old one that I use for smaller cards, and a new one for high capacity cards, I'd ditch one, but this way I can drain off two at once.) for when I'm lugging my DSLRs.
But then again, you don't often see compact flash Readers in laptops.

I actually got a universal flash reader on USB, it's got provisions for I 24 different flash card standards in 4 slots but the smallest kind needs another adapter first.

I used to have a drive but I broke when I pulled it apart to get my microSD out. Because I put it in the wrong bit :P
