Wow! that's a beautiful splash page! Looks like May is in for some dangerous excitement! :D
-
I hope Moss jerk gets kicked... ;D
-
HAHA! Lets do the Warp Box agaiiiiin!
I wonder who's over Maytag's right shoulder... Looks like it might be Fata Morgana. I'm thinking Brion has missed drawing the full head and body 'cos he's going to let the colour artist have some fun with it.
-
I can't wait to see what this cover looks like colored. :D
I'm also really curious about what the warp box is...
-
Heh what a page.
We see Bern is safe.
Also Crest and Glyph in a bit of a situation here.
So Glyph was taken out as first, damn sandwiches.
And all of them were asleep till now, I can understand why Bern and May were nude, but why Crest and Glyph were undressed also?
I can't wait to see Crest reaction when he will wake up.
Also I hope this isn't Fata illusion this time but with Bern as testing subject.
-
Maybe they put roofies in his sammich.
So this is probably a clue that he's not involved with these guys.
Imagine...Crest wakes up, his head hurting...and sees there's a naked guy next to him.
-
Why does Bern look like a chibi Bern? Her eyes seem bigger O_o...
-
Why does Bern look like a chibi Bern? Her eyes seem bigger O_o...
She doesn't look chibi to me. Her eyes are wide with shock/surprise.
-
Well, at least they had the decency to put her in a separate bed.
-
I find it somewhat amusing that the three of them are in a cell together, as if those three are the three they don't need to worry about at all.
-
Actually... Crest might be wearing something. There's sort of a square off under his neck in the 3rd panel. I'm actually still not certain what to make of Glyph but I guess this shows that Crest was knocked out after his discussion with Danzig as well.
...Then again, this could all be an illusion to test Bern this time.
-
Also I doubt Bern was alone in that bed, I think that Suspiria was with her before there, before she was taken for examination.
But still this looks like a nice room not a rundown cell where May was, so it might be an illusion.

I also vote for illusion, but I have not really any clue...
We will see soon... (http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/p/paranoid.gif)
-
It is odd that Maytag is alone out in some shabby forest hut prison while Bern, Glyph and Crest are in a room together. Not to mention that Suspira was considered special enough even before Melter arrived, to put her in a private room on some sort of examination table rather than in a comfy bed. If it was some sort of special prison to reduce or restrict her magick talents I'd expect Glyph to be in a similar room (to be on Qtalda's team he's surely a lvl3 sorcerer of talent).
*LOL* it'll be interesting to see how much of that bath incident Bern remembers. Not to mention how a magick user like Glyph handles the capture if he's woken and still able to use his powers (surely he is can't he'd have an inkling of knowledge as to what might be blocking/restricting his abilities).
We might even discover something more from Crest who may have been left awake a bit longer.
-
Hmmm I wonder what the comment about the castle means...
The castle seems to exist for real, since we saw it earlier in the series, as Brion pointed out...
-
Damn it, May. What *are* you looking at?
-
It's noventia's castle. !!!!
BTW, long time lurker, first time poster, had to regester just to say that
-
It's only a model.
-
It's only a model.
Dam it!! thats my line :-\

Hang around Tonyk! It's sexy and fun here. Although you must know that, if you've been lurking...<_<
-
Hehe i do know! :-*
-
hmmmm, tough one.
Suspira was one of the first to notice something funny about the castle. Crest noted It had no windows.
I guess the entire outside could have been an illusion with the doorways using those image portals to enter it and move between rooms that could be anywhere on Ischariot.
still... Maytag wouldn't have a clue what Crest and Suspira went through in the stairway so I'm not sure how she could have figured anything out. And she's looking at something from where she stands so there must be a good illusion in place. I wonder if she's managed to see through it or work out something wrong with the picture. Shadows and reflections from the sun could hint her to an illusion. Even the wind not moving the leaves and bridge.
-
I wonder what would happen if she strayed from the path. Not sure on the purpose of the mural. I can only guess that its hiding the castle behind it and they're not going through a portal but a doorway in the illusion to reach the castle hidden behind... still holding out for Bloody Mary to catch Maytag's scent and come into this mess.
I'm sure Brion already has a million e-mails and PM messages but 1st, 3rd and 4th panel all show or hint at Maytag's left arm returning... I swear these are collectors items if you can get to them before Brion changes them... gonna be a pain for him to change the 3rd and 4th panels.
-
Already changed.
-
Hmmm... that's pretty cool. I like use of illusions in this arch. Illusory magic is such a big part of D&D, but you so rarely see it in fiction nowadays.
-

Especially elaborate "almost realer than reality" type ones.
-
Hmm seems they entered the castle, hidden in a / as a mural...
-
The Regine illusion talked about something called a "Dark Cell".
It seems to be pretty dark in there, whereever May is now. Could she have been tricked into this Dark Cell?
-
hmmm, so Moss enters the darkness, stands to the side and tells her to keep moving... Hard to say. I'm more thinking that they're just inside one of Fata's illusions and it's a thick one for whatever reason (probably don't want the wind blowing down a wafer thin illusion).
Looking at the newly coloured cover (looks awesome Delusion), it certainly seems that Fata might be involved again in this chapter. I guess we're still stuck wondering as to what Moss' other reasons for helping them escape might be. He also made the comment that Fata truly doesn't care that Maytag and Moss know each other.
All up I'm hopeful that this chapter will shed some serious light on the whole debacle they're in. I guess the first page already showed us what happened to Bern, Crest and Glyph, while these latest pages of travel might actually be leading to something else significant behind this mural.
Other than that, Moss is his usual dick of a self. Hehe, "can I hold your hand" :P
-
(I got my boyfriend and his best friend addicted to Flipside. Success!)
And what a surprise! Moss is being a jerk. Though I wonder, being in this dark room in a place with delusional mages, if they're going to mess with her some more. Especially with that ominous cover we have.
-
Story feels like it's moving a bit slowly but maybe it's trying to create some sort of creepy feeling. I'm thinking that she might already be in this warp box thing but it's hard to make sense of anything thats going on in this place. Still hoping that they'll get some degree of answers in this chapter before they leave.
-
For some reason I get visions of the box at the start of Superman when the three get expelled from Krypton. :-\
-
Heh, good call. I can't remember where I read or saw it but I could have sworn that Brion mentioned somewhere that the gang would finally reach Eschelon in the next chapter... Maybe it was in the 4th book... or maybe I imagined it *shrug*
Speaking of the books, it occurs to me that the next chapter will likely be the last chapter of book 5. I wonder who will make a cover appearance for that one. I'm guessing we'll have another Maytag facing us as she seems to have been the most prominent character for most of the chapters in this book... unless Moss or someone else joins the Scooby gang.
-
NEW PAGE!
Ha! It's probably been uploaded automatically as per Brion's message. But hasn't updated the front page as he mentioned it wouldn't due to some problem.
OK.... I thought we might actually see something that made a little sense after she fell through that trap door but... I got nothing. I'm just gonna say that these people, their castle and everything around them is just beyond bizzaro. Even Maytag seems to be thinking so now and we once thought that she was about as eccentric as you could get.
-
Yeah... pretty naked girl crawling around on all fours. Nothing sexual to see here...
I'll be in my bunk. :-[
-
I must admit - the sound effects made me laugh.
-
You saw it in one of the intermissions Charles. Is it me or does these guys have a baloon fetish?
-
It's Danzig. He has a thing for big, squishy balls.
-
Yeah... pretty naked girl crawling around on all threes. Nothing sexual to see here...
fixed it for you
You saw it in one of the intermissions Charles. Is it me or does these guys have a baloon fetish?
Ahh yep. The last intermission said the next "story arc" would take place in Eschelon... Now what constitutes a story arc in here, is it a chapter or the next load of books? If its books then we should have one more chapter to go after this. There might also be a side story considering the fact that Brion usually needs more material than can be found in 5 chapters to fill a book (much like the Bloody Mary side story).
-
Well, May should have no trouble dealing with nice, squishy balls.
-
New page is up again... more bubbles and another door.
So the page summary is pretty much this
page2: Bern, Crest and Glyph imprisoned ;D
page3: Maytag and Moss look at a bridge ???
page4: bridge revealed as a mural, they enter darkness :-\
page5: more darkness :'(
page6: more darkness and trap door :'(
page7: bubbles :-\
page8: more bubbles and door :-X
I don't know what to think... Is it some sort of test of sensory perception? First you're in what seems like an endless dark space and then you're completely surrounded by bubbles which would probably cause someone claustrophobic to go into cardiac arrest. *meh* if she steps out with her hair standing on end then I guess the bubbles were just there to charge her up and the next person to get a hand shake will get the shock of his life. If its some series of safeguards to prevent people from getting in then it appears to be failing big time.
I wonder if Maytag is on her toes and keeping mindful that there could be a point to all this nonsense that might be dangerous. Personally I'm still truly puzzled myself about the purpose of the tests they've been put through thus far, together with the latest moves.
-
i just want to clear something i'm still a little confused about, the Glyph in the bath...
that wasn't the real Glyph was it?
-

According to Fata (who has yet to be caught lying), the Glyph in the bath is an illusion like the Crest, Umber combo and Maytag's suit.
As for the purpose of these "obstacles,"
1.) It's reasonable to assume that these people work for or with the "Thin Man" as they have "friendly" relations with "Melter" who is a known Thin Man minion.
2.) They like playing mind games on people, judging from the bath and stair episodes.
3.) They are running our heroes like rats in a maze. Checking their skills and abilities, and general level of adaptability.
4.) Their elevator doesn't quite reach the top floor if you catch my meaning.

Any chance you know what page that on? >.>; I don't it was ever said for certain in the comic whether that Glyph was one of the twins or Fata, actually for that matter they never said it wasn't actually Glyph, though due to the eyes I think it was safe to say it was one of the twins.
-
The plot is getting very strange, I'm assuming that these are all just illusions affecting May to prevent the escape of prisoners. Moss is probably just standing next to her in some corridor laughing.
Side note: I always thought that Maytag would enjoy being surrounded by huge balls while being naked. :-X

It was Fata's illusion of Regina who said it was an illusion. In that sense, I guess you could argue that the illusion of Regina was lying about being Regina so there could be lies in what was said before Fata revealed herself. Its certainly possible that she might lie about that if Glyph is one of their own and they don't want to reveal his role or anything... Although Bern hasn't had any of this information about illusions, so if she remembers what happened in the bath and she's alone in a room with Glyph right now... could she cut out his eyes with only her fingers?
As for the twins *shrug* I'm guessing it's just an ability to duplicate/clone yourself multiple times and bring the clones back together. Thats probably how she can claim that she's never done anything to anyone that she hasn't done to herself *lol*
-
Ah, Thanks, that explains why I couldn't find it, I was looking at just the Fata pages.

Well, seems like it, I think, it is just a trick to get her out of balance...
What did Moss say again "I was planning to help you all along. I have my own reasons"
Maybe there is something else behind it all, Moss wants for Maitag to find out, so he can use or take that...
*shrug*

it could be another one of moss' obsession with exploiting peoples weaknesses. perhaps he wants to get at his 'idiot' uncle danzig's weakness or something?
-

Fata's exact words (interviewing Maytag after the failed "seduction" scene) were "Don't worry about that guy in the bath, he was just an illusion."
-
hmmm, certainly makes me wonder what weakness Moss has seen in all the others at the castle. He hinted at the weakness of the twins but I'm betting Fata not caring is a hint at her weakness as well.
...actually, I wonder what he'd see if he looked at Melter.
-
...or the thin man.
-
Well. Someone has interesting tastes in porn.
-
Well. Someone has interesting tastes in porn.
I guess that guy would call it art.
-
Is this a hint of what is going to happen to our intrepid gang?
-
You can tell a lot about someone's mindset by the art he/she likes. In this case, I'd say psychoses. Several really nasty ones.
-
See, now all this reeks of the Thin Man. His creations have almost always been from young women.
It also makes me worry about the image of Fata on the cover of the chapter and the memory of her lower half fading to nothingness. I thought that maybe it didn't exist but now I wonder if she was hiding it with illusions (heck, unless she can teleport her entire presence there was just an illusion). I'm just thinking of it after seeing that first statue with the lower body of serpents.
Hmmm, I'm also reminded of Maytag's interest in the paintings she saw when they first arrived: http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=824
Which makes me wonder if there's more to the painting than simply showing an image (some sort of portal to a trapped soul or something?)
-
Well. Someone has interesting tastes in porn.
Strange. Don't most people keep theirs in a box under the bed and not in the hallway?
-

Depends on if it's generally regarded porn. Some people look at pictures like theese: http://littlefairytaleprincess.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/botticelli_venus1.jpg , http://www.abcgallery.com/R/rubens/rubens49.jpg and complain about porn.
Well, this one would fit more in that gallery: http://www.darquesied.com/images/Gallery/wk77_Rubens_Venus.jpg

Threesome--I mean, it's Fata! (I think...?)
-
Threesome--I mean, it's Fata! (I think...?)
I was about to ask... are the twins actually Fata? I wasn't sure if this was definitively the case or not.
-
I suspect the Twins are a different mob. If we do believe that Glyph was one of Fata's illusions then it'd have little need to talk to the twins if they were also part of Fata's illusion.
Something else just struck me as strange about those statues with snakes as well... Anyone remember Noventia's stone snake room?
http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic/book0/fs19pg13.html
Other than that I guess Maytag is back in the castle... RING THE DAMN BELL FOR ESCHER ALREADY!
-
The snakes could just be coincidence. Also, I hope that Maytag doesn't put clothes on anytime soon ;D.
-
This can NOT be good.
-
I think this would be a great place to film a Lady Gaga music video.
-
I feel like a bomb is about to drop.
Something like "Danzig Doesn't actually exist!" or some such.
Fata Morgana is going to tell Maytag something important though, I can sense it.
-
It seems to me now that Danzig has those same Fata-doppletwin eyes as all her illusions. Could just be me looking for it now, though.
-
Turns out the thin man is a really fat guy.
-
And here I was so sure that invisible guy...what's his name... from the xibulba arc was actually the thin man. Since he was lying at the time. And he was rather large and invisible :P
I wonder when he'll come back into play.
-
Normally, I would recommend that Maytag have no dealings with these "women." They're freaking bug nuts. Unfortunately, Maytag doesn't have the luxury of choosing her allies right now. She needs all the help she can get. She SHOULD look for a way to get rid of them ASAP though.
-
Maytag deals well with the crazies though. I wouldn't be surprised if she and Fata became best friends soon-ish.
I'm more interested in what the hell Moss did to earn Fata Morgana's loyalty. It doesn't strike me as something he'd normally be able to accomplish.
-
Isn't it obvious that they're lovers? ;)
-
K, this has officially reached mindscrew levels...
-
Dont you seee Moss is the Thin Man ;)
-
Okay, so let me get this straight...
Were Danzig and Escher illusions then too?
So that means Melter wasn't really talking to 'them'?
-
So we really don't actually know what is going on. We still don't know exactly what a Fata Morgana is.
-
Is it just me, or does Moss look like he's shaking in that last panel? Or maybe it's just an aura of dots.
I do like those lips in panel 3, it has this mysterious, "mu ha ha, I'm so sneaky!" look.
-
I don't know where you people are getting the idea that Danzig is Fata Morgana. Moss said that Danzig was his uncle, and if Fata Morgana = Danzig, then Fata Morgana is Moss's uncle? Even though she is a female? I guess you could say that Moss was lying about him being his uncle, but he had no reason to.
And if Danzig is Fata Morgana, you need to assume that the entire bed and breakfast belongs to Moss. If this is the case, why wouldn't he meet them directly, after all, May and Moss left on the best of terms.
Personally, I think Melter is Fata Morgana.
-
I dunno, I think Fata Morgana is just Fata. And Melter and such are not. I mean, we've seen Melter before. It seems Fata is favorable most to those two girls than pose as a fake persona. Even if we've seen her take the shape of another person before, what reason would she have to be Melter?
-

I think her statements implied that Danzig is Moss's uncle, but the Danzig we saw wasn't the real Danzig, but rather an illusion? Maybe? I don't know.
-
One reason Fata is being loyal to Moss is to keep herself safe. After all, Moss can see her weakness.
Another long-time lurker, first-time poster in the Flipside forum. I hope to have lots of fun here talking about our favourite jester.
-
Is it just me, or does Moss look like he's shaking in that last panel? Or maybe it's just an aura of dots.
I took that to mean Moss has this "Oh yeah. I'm THAT bad." look to him.
So I take it a warp box is something like May's D-Bag then? Similar type of magic that is.
-
whatever you do, don't stick your penis into a warp box.
-
whatever you do, don't stick your penis into a warp box.
It's my dick in a warp-box!
-
I agree with blueyoshi, he knows her weakness.
-
Once it's in a warp box, you can't get it out. You can't stop an endless staircase with just your dick.
-
Once it's in a warp box, you can't get it out. You can't stop an endless staircase with just your dick.
the endless staircase officially needs to become a sex maneuver, now.
-
hmm. Warp box. Weird.
And Churba was clearly referencing this song by Lonely Island.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhwbxEfy7fg
One of my favorite bands by the way. :-*
-
I find that this hints at Glyph being in on the whole thing. I haven't seen Fata talk to herself with her illusions except for when her twin talked to Glyph in the bathtub. There seems to be no reason for it unless Glyph is either in on it or he was possessed. But it makes sense to me that he'd be in on it so that he could choose the bed and breakfast as the place to stay.
I guess the last limit that appears to exist on Fata's illusions is that she only seems capable of producing two human illusions at once. The other thing that occurs to me is that Moss is a serious sadist so he'd probably get off on Fata's ability to produce illusions that he could torture and destroy... Not sure why she would be loyal to him, although she did mention that nothing excites her anymore so maybe Moss knows how to excite her *shrug*.
-
A disturbing thought occurs to me. What if "the Thin Man" isn't just one person, but is in fact, the name of an organization? The way Melter told Bloody Mary that "we consider you a breakthrough" hints at that. The fact that everyone in the organization would refer to "thin man" as "he" is a well used red herring designed to confuse victims and authorities alike and has been rather successful in concealing many organizations.
-
Well, I think Danzig referred to "The Thin Man" as him when Crest mentioned him. We have aired thoughts that it could be an organisation rather than a single being, but its hard to say yet with so little information. Now that Moss and Fata are apparently on our hero's side they might reveal some information about the enigmatic figure.
-
I'm pretty sure the "Thin Man" is an individual, who is no doubt the head of his own organization of minions or apprentices or whatever. Melter seems like price material for a "right hand man".
-
Has anyone yet actually put on their Salvador Limones accent and said "Who is the thin man, I wonder, and how does he fit into this sinister puzzle?"
Because if not, that would be a real shame...
-
Well in that case how about modifying the "They, who are they" speech from The Wild Bunch :)
-
The "organization stuff" is a legit guess, in my opinion. However, as Charles said, we don't really have enough information to intelligently speculate anything about so-called the thin man. Right now, based on what we know, it has an equal likelihood of being a giant purple dinosaur as, well, just some "man" who happens to be "thin". :'(
-
OH GOD IT'S BARNEY! ARGHHHHHHHHH!
Is anyone else disappointed with the placement of the 2nd speech bubble in the 4th panel of today's page?
This whole warp-box/dimensional-bag thing makes you wonder just how big Maytag's bag is... It also makes you wonder if there's someone who has the power to summon whatever's inside it *lol*.
Actually it only just dawned on me with what Maytag said in that last panel. The forest prison where they kept her is still inside the Dimensional bag. Moss said that she never left it and seemed to note that there was only a single door in and out which is presumably back at the castle. Well, there's only three doors we haven't looked behind now. Two down in the Lobby and one at the end of the hall Maytag just walked from... Actually, if Bern's stuff is still in the bathroom and the room she was staying in then I guess she can go collect all of that now... including the anti-magick sword. Maytag's own gear would still be in her own dimensional bag which I presume has been taken off her since she hasn't summoned her jester suit or anything to help her.
-
AHA! I think I found Maytag's dimensional bag
http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=830
I'm pretty sure thats it on the bedside table at the far right of Panel 1. I'm pretty sure Bern and Suspira didn't have a purse like that (Suspira wouldn't need it with her own DBag anyway). But its been mentioned that Maytag can make her DBag appear and disappear from her body and I'm pretty sure that purse from the beginning of Book 1 was it: http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic/book0/fs01pg03.html
-
I like this strip. :-*
It's so nice when someone in-canon shows surprise at the awesomeness that is magic. I know that if we lived with magic, instead of technology, we would only show fascination with it if we learned the bizarre theories / science behind it or if it was a type of magic new to them, like we see here, but it still is nice to see a character share the audience's reaction to something that is, let's be honest, pretty fucking cool. :D

I don't think that the forest is actually part of the portal box. I think that the area that includes the portal and bridge and forest are either a spot in the real world, kind of like a "double bind" to foil people trying to chase the Thin Man's minions back to the castle, or just illusionary forest. An actual living forest would either imply a miniature sun :o to keep the plants healthy or, well, magic plants that don't require sunlight. :-\
We haven't met any characters who have been shown to have powers related to growing plants magically or summoning extra-planar plants, so that area's scenery is in all likelihood illusory, in my opinion.
-
Well, there is indeed some kind of magical light source that has not been seen throughout the whole "warp box." The hallway has no windows, there are no lamps, none of the characters is holding a torch, and yet everything is well-lit. We did not see the "sky" in the "forest," so we can't even be sure if there even IS a "sun." Plants will grow in artificial light. So.... it is PLAUSIBLE that the forest IS part of the "warp box." Maytag's reaction is quite normal, tbh. Even though she's quite familiar with the workings of sorcery, the sheer scale of this construct SHOULD inspire awe.

Really? :o
I thought they only grew with a lot of light. I should ask my boyfriend or pot dealer friend about it. why do they have green houses then?
You could really grow a forest inside? Then why don't they do that more?
-
Well. Someone has interesting tastes in porn.
Strange. Don't most people keep theirs in a box under the bed and not in the hallway?
I don't get what you are talking about... seems I missed some background detail...
What page do you refer to? :?
-
@Rava: They said that when Maytag was walking through the hall outside the room with balls and saw the naked pictures on the wall.
@RoninAngel: Well, It's like Hydroponics systems I guess. You can grown things in sheds and underground (hell, even under the bed) with simple fluorescent lights. I think UV lights work better, not sure on that. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Marijuana grown in hydroponics is actually more potent than wild or garden grown for some reason (higher concentration of the active chemical in it). The other one to remember I guess is that even if the light isn't as powerful, it's 24 hours a day as opposed to about 14 hours from sunlight. But as Moss just pointed out, there's a lot of things the Thin Man can do that the Conclave apparently can't and if his experiments have been on living things then that may well have gone onto plants.
-
this recent comic just made me realise just how cute maytag is :-*
i'm still curious about moss' own reasons for helping maytag, or have i missed something? :'(
-
Nah, we can't be certain why he's helping her exactly. He's stated that he does have his own reasons, so I suspect alterior motives, but its hard to say if those motives will hinder her or not. The fact he's not telling her those motives could be indication that they will hinder them or that he has some other goal in mind that she wouldn't support if she knew of it (possibly something to do with "dark cell").
But he's said he'd help her and her friends and I'm thinking that Maytag would have picked up on that being a lie by now if he were misleading her that much.
I'm still a little uncertain about the exact situation they're in. Danzig calls it a recruitment centre, Moss calls it a tourist trap where people go missing and he seems to know that The Thin Man experiments on people (or that he has a reputation for doing so). Despite imprisonment and the like, it just leaves me in doubt as to how much danger they're in, if any at all.
P.S. Are they headed for the room with Maytag and Bern's gear? Hopefully she'll be getting her stuff back soon. Naked Maytag is all well and good but I'm just feeling like she's constantly vulnerable.

And the one arm doesn't help at all. Makes it pretty awkward. :(
I have a joke about that. It's mean spirited and terrible but appropriate:
There's a guy walking on the beach. He sees a woman off in the distance, weeping. He runs over to her and sees that she is naked and has no arms or legs.
"Why are you crying?" he says.
"I'm... I'm just so lonely! Please Sir! Please,... will you fuck me?"
He picks her up and tosses her in the ocean and says "Now your fucked."
-
About the Dark Cell, I think Mary has entered it. And once she got out, she was Bloody Mary. After all, after she encountered Melter, all she can remember before the transformation is darkness (http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=676).
-
Yeah, hard to tell if thats the Dark Cell or the erasure of her memories during that time, by the Thin Man. See, if this is a recruitment center then possibly the idea is that they take in a new person, show them the "truth about the world" and then that person agrees to help them and undergo the experiments and transformations. So maybe Bloody Mary wasn't an unwilling victim but a willing one who was left witless of her participation afterwards... Then again, as much as she might consent to being turned into a killing machine, I doubt she'd consent to being set upon her own parents.
...Unless they think this truth about the world is that the people in it are fake robots, all illusions or actually prisoners in some virtual reality who will somehow be released upon death.
-
Hmmmm, I guess Fata would have known how special the purse was after reading her mind... Moss might have known as well after spending some time with her. I can easily imagine that they might have talked about magick and that she'd shown him her own D-Bag.
Maybe they didn't want her to get any magick items that could help her but she has Bern's magick sword and they'd have known about that... Actually Bern's normal swords are missing... They were leaned up against the bed
...actually is this the same room? The painting is missing from the wall above the bedside drawers and those same drawers have straight handles instead of round ones... An illusion by Fata?

-
Well, moving right along. This is going far too well. I predict complications in 3... 2... 1... :'(
-
Well it's looking like we're switching to the others waiting in their own cell. Crest is the only one dressed and will hopefully be able to tell us about what happened after Danzig commented that they were the "good guys" (which may be nothing more than a sleeping spell being cast on him).
The really interesting thing will be if Bern remembers what happened in the bath room. I'm still betting that it was the real Glyph there and not an illusion. The question is, does Glyph work for these guys and was willingly trying to have his way with her or was he possessed? If the previous possession with Regina is any indication then he should remember what happened regardless.
-

Behold, through the magic of retroactive change, those things have all been fixed! Wow!
-
BWAAAHAHAHHA *lol* I think the comic erfworld refers to that as the magick field of Retconjuration
Ok, I guess its the same room then :P
I love the additional detail of the one fata morgana twin/illusion carrying Bern's main swords for Maytag.
I'm going to guess that they stopped by the bathroom for Maytag's clothes and that she gathered Berns as well and packed 'em in her swag there... I suddenly recall that the magick sword was also enhanced to be extra light, so if she wanted to, I've no-doubt Maytag could easily swing it... wonder what it would do to the warp box and/or fata's illusions... They'd probably vanish just trying to pick it up. Who knows, maybe a sorcerer wouldn't be capable of using magick if he was holding the sword... Which could be an interesting trick to pull if you fool them into picking up the sword or something.
-
Glyph is still unconscious. Crest is apparently respecting Bern's need for modesty and has his back turned despite having seen her naked before. (Perhaps he's afraid of getting his eyes gouged out.) If Glyph is part of the merry crew (willing or otherwise), why is he there where both Bern AND Crest can hurt him, a lot, and repeatedly as well as apparently locked inside? It seems no one has tested the door yet. There are many reasons why Maytag's purse is missing.
1.) Simple theft. Whoever took it know the Thin Man's rep and simply thought Maytag wasn't going to need it, or anything inside again.
2.) Whoever took it wanted to know more about "the recruit" and is currently examining the contents.
3.) It's all part of a standard disarm and capture ploy. Take all their stuff so they can't put up any resistance. Only problem with that is that Crest still has all his clothes. (As well as Suspira for that matter, although she's been fully drained of "essence.")
4.) This is indeed another room in the "warp box" and it only appears to be the room where she left her stuff. The clothes she now has on, may not even be hers!
5.) This could just be another trick/ illusion entirely, in this wonderful "fun" house rat maze.
I'm sure there are many more. Just out of curiousity, even with Moss' help, how does Maytag plan to help everyone? She's no match for Melter, let alone Melter, Danzig, the guy who sucked up Suspira's essence, etc. all at once!
-
i am throughly annoyed at the normal maytag clothes. i want her jester suit back. or maybe moss is afraid she might get cocky? o:
sigh. maytag just doesn't suit being plain.
-
@Tbeean: Yeah, I think in this entire book so far we've only seen Maytag in her Jester suit for 6 pages (Even though it was a Fata Morgana illusion, I count it). Although we've probably seen more naked Maytag, and even Bern, than ever before ;D. I think it makes up for it, but one chapter to go after this one so we might see her get back into it yet, either with a Fata Morgana illusion or by getting her stuff back.
@RoninA: Actually, I think Glyph might be awake now. If you look at the last image of page 16, he's now lying with his arms behind his head and one knee raised under the sheets. If he's even just a level 2 sorcerer I don't see much issue with him being in a room with a naked Bern and an unarmed Crest. But if he is on their side then I'd imagine he's been given the same serum which suppressed Seraph's spirit essence from being used.
Also, if it was part of the standard disarm procedure then I'd have expected them to confiscate Bern's items from the room as well. Particularly with that magick sword which we can still see in the swag that Maytag's got now.
One possibility that's occurred to me... What if Crest had an opportunity to absorb it? If he thought they were in trouble before searching for the seam in the staircase or if Danzig took him to the Girl's room before prison for some reason, he may have decided to take it. But at this point, the proposal of simple THEFT makes the most sense considering how much money she had in there (not to mention, expensive magick items and potions).
P.S. They didn't leave Suspira with all her clothes, they stripped her down to her underware. http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=926
-

Thats what I thought, I think Crest has it. Or if Suspira took it before him, then Melter and Danzig would've removed it with her clothes I'm guessing.
-
Heh, If Crest had been a real gentlemen he'd have offered at least his shirt to Bern. Maybe she'll lend him her magick sword so he can fight if required (seen as how he left his own in the carriage *lol*).
I'm a bit surprised at Maytag's interrogation of Glyph. I'd have expected her to be a bit more tactful and let him explain himself to see if he were lying or not. Then again, maybe she's hoping that Moss or Fata would know better and tell her if he was a double agent or not. The other possibility is that she's trying to prove Fata Morgana lied, but then it was only the illusion of Regina who said Glyph was an illusion.
Still leaves me wondering about how magick works when you possess someone. Could the possessor still cast spells from Glyph's body and would it use his spirit essence or their own. For that matter would the enchanted waters of the bath have affected them while they were in his body. He/it still seemed easily aware at the end of the bath scene but it took some time before Bern and Maytag were affected.
...actually, just how far did Glyph get with Bern before Maytag pulled her away? :-X
-
damn. those must have been some tasty sandwiches.
-
...actually, just how far did Glyph get with Bern before Maytag pulled her away? :-X
Well who knows what was happening underwater with Glyph's hands he maybe got a grope on few things, Bern looked like she was just kissing nothing more, from the distance it didn't look like they had intercourse, again I feel sorry for Bern becoming violated by magic against her preferences.
I'm disappointed that was real Glyph not some Fata's creation, maybe we will see an explanation from Glyph side and also Bern's, but I'm a bit shocked that May brings this talk right in front of everyone which for sure will make Bern embarassed if she remember anything, I hope she won't though.
-
Seems like Glyph's cat is about to be de-bagged.
Perhaps him and that asshole Moss will die an arbitrary and painful death. Here's hopin'.
-
Whoa, Glyph is PISSED. I like it! :D
-
Wow I didn't see it coming.
Glyph being pissed he got a free occasion on feeling up a girl with who he could never have sex willingly?
But to tell the truth he too was violated, like mind-raped, if I understand his body was possesed by Danzig but his mind was still there and he could not do anything so it's too not a pleasure feeling.
I'm curious how he will explain it in next page with that pissed look, don't tell me he has some decency in him.
-
Smooth talking there, romeo. When you scream it out like that, it's probably only going to piss Bern off. :P
-
Smooth talking there, romeo. When you scream it out like that, it's probably only going to piss Bern off. :P
:P I don't think Gylph will ever get on Bern's good side xD
-
Heh, I'm sure this is about to make him appear that bit more noble in appearance by having him enraged at being forced to rape someone so that while we think of him as a pervert he firmly establishes that he'd never rape someone and would seriously punish anyone else who did.
But I could help imagine that as Danzig brought his body into the bathroom, and steadily up behind a naked Bernadette, his mind was screaming and sobbing:
"SHE'S GONNA CUT OUT MY EYES!!!"
"SHE'S GONNA CUT OUT MY EYES!!!"
"SHE'S GONNA CUT OUT MY EYES!!!"
"SHE'S GONNA CUT OUT MY EYES!!!"
"SHE'S GONNA CUT OUT MY EYES!!!"
P.S. Just wanted to note, I found it cute but strange that one Fata Illusion had an expression of surprise while the other held an air of boredom. I'd certainly imagine that she could control her illusions to act as she wishes, but I'd have expected surprise to be one emotion that would carry across both of them.
P.P.S. I'd suspect they must have read his mind to know this much about his personality, but then they'd know how he feels about full rape. So I'll simply presume that Moss told them his weakness.
-
Hmmm... Glyph wasn't home when the sexual assault-ish stuff happened.
-
Well... Glyph would have been aware, much like Regina was still aware while Maytag controlled her body with the same trick. I tend to believe that they maintain all the same sensory perceptions (sight, sound, touch, smell, hearing) of their body but lack the control. He was probably screaming all sorts of things in Danzig's mind while he was under his control and watching/feeling events unfold.

I've still been banging my head, trying to work out what Danzig might mean about revealing the truth of the world and suddenly I was struck by a question. How big can you make a "Warp Box".
Then it struck me... Could Iscariot be an entire world, inside a Warp Box? Then there's the question of what the entrance to this world might look like and what we could find outside of it.
-
Hmm. This does give Glyph a few brownie points in my book. He just went from -40 up to -15.
Unless he was only angry that he wasn't in control of himself, anyways.
-
I think what Suspira said is some ominous foreshadowing. I wonder what will come of it.
@Charles: Slow down there, cowboy. Lets not get all ahead of our selves just yet. I think that you are just reacting to the presence of Fata Morgana and questioning the nature of reality because of it.
-

Hey, this whole book has made me question the nature of reality in Iscariot. Some serious mind %#@&ing has been going on since it started.
Yeah, suspira is very foreshadowing. We're talking about people who can read your mind, erase your memories and even alter your behaviour... A few hours alone with Melter... Thats a worry. But they should now have some serious magick power in their party between her, Moss, Glyph and Fata Morgana.
Just another thing thats bugging me... Melter called her "Suspira" rather than Inverness: http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=918

Of course if Moss and Fata are indeed independent factors in this, or they are just some pawns who think they can do something.
Also Glyph's outburst behaviour prooves that he is either quite touchy about rape thing (meaning he is indeed some good guy inside) or he really liked it so he denied it with all his might so he would not be killed by Bern at spot (I really love her expression in first panel) meaning he's just a common pervert inside to the bone :P
Since Suspiria was examined by Melter there might be some surprise waiting for us with her, and I quite like how Crest is worried about his "girlfriend".
-

Melter did use her name in quotes, so I get the impression he knows her real name and is referring to her as Suspiria so Danzig and his gang know who he's talking about. (Right before Suspiria collapses Crest calls out her name in front of Danzig)
What surprised me was the sudden appearance of Suspiria with her clothes XD At first I thought it was another Fata illusion instead of a cutscene after apparently rescuing her. Hopefully her headache is just from getting her spirit essence taken..
-
It's too bad Suspiria has a headache. Looks like Crest won't be getting any for a while :D.
-

Probably a little bit of both. I bet he "enjoyed" it but is really ashamed because that's not how he wants things to turn out.
-

Yeah because there was ever a chance of that happening. ::)

He's had SOME charming effect on her. He's shown himself highly intelligent, compassionate and promised to "put up with her" like Kirin did. We all know how HE was rewarded for that.
I'm also quite surprised at Suspira's sudden appearance. We're not shown exactly how or when she rejoins the party, she's just suddenly "THERE."
I don't think Glyph's reaction is an act. It's justified rage. Being a pervert does NOT automatically make you a rapist. There are a great many perverts who are not rapists. There are also many rapists who are not perverts. While the two crimes may go together, neither is a prerequisite for the other.
Also, Glyph neither gave consent nor had any control in that situation. Saying he "enjoyed it" is like saying a woman who was raped "enjoyed" being raped because she was stimulated to orgasm or had a history of being promiscuous. I should point out that while a great deal of media from many cultures perpetuates this idea, it is totally false. If Glyph was NOT angry and defensive, then I'd be worried.
-
Big trouble in little warp box.
Damn. It's a showdown. I can almost hear the squealing song from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" as they march towards Danzig and Escher.
Alright, lets weigh this up:
Escher can neutralise any magick cast against him and maybe Danzig, he'll also suck all the spirit essence from anyone who tries and render them useless. Danzig is presumably a very strong level 3 caster with God only knows what other tricks up his sleeve. So possibly they can cast uber magick without anyone casting against them.
Moss can see the weakness of these two and is Danzig's nephew so maybe he can do some talking considering his level 2 magick is probably of little use. Fata Morgana has her illusion powers but if they're neutralising magick then it's probably dangerous to maintain the illusion of herself let alone do anything too fancy. Glyph is probably useless as best I can tell (no magick) Although he might be a more mature member of the Phalanx so maybe he's got more experience and tricks in dealing with this scenario. Crest is without his sword and thus, useless unless he does some unexpected tackle or the like. Maytag is without her d-bag so all those tricks are gone but we've seen before that her voice is often her most powerful weapon. Suspira only has her magick and possibly some other problems.
Bern only has one magick sword which doesn't fit to her style, but she's probably still more than a match for casters who don't know how to fight, even if she's not using her ideal style. Heck, she'll be under attack from magick so I doubt she can afford to simply use a defensive strategy anyway, so she'll have to get out of style and move in close for an attack. She could also give her magick sword to Maytag or Crest, or even her normal swords to them and keep the magick one for herself. I guess the one way the magick users could help is maybe by casting enhancements on the fighters together with counter-spells against anything Danzig unleashes and other protective measures.
*meh* I'm hoping for a fight. It's been far too long since anyone stepped up for a battle and I can't recall EVER seeing one in flipside which involved one group against another.
-
If it isn't Rocky and Dr. Fran-N-Furter? ::)
I hope they get a serious ass kicking. >:(
-
But isn't that Suspiria's essence that they have there?
Further... what exactly did melter do to Suspiria?
-
Good question... and is Melter still around?
Yeah, when Escher started absorbing her essence he had a much smaller flower and it grew much larger than what he's showing now, so maybe he's still got some of her essence stored up and some of it has drained away. Makes you wonder if he, or someone else, can do something with all that gathered essence... Seriously, could he gather the essence of multiple people (doesn't mater what level of caster since everyone has an equal amount of essence) and then allow another caster to use it all to do a REALLY big spell (like the giant Warp Box they're inside)?
-
AHA! I just figured out who's going to save the day here.
MAXMILLION!
http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=825
P.S. Anyone else notice that Brion did a copy paste of that background in the first panel to get it right?

That "equal amount" of essence thing was MAYTAG's understanding, not the author's. While Maytag is very knowledgeable about magic in the Flipsideverse, she doesn't know EVERYTHING. Just look at how much she's learning NOW. Further, Iverness, is a "genius" so it's possible that there are some people who have MORE essence than the norm.
As for Glyph not having magic, we can't be entirely certain of that. He may not have USED magic outside the "power scouter, let's see what you've got under your clothes" item, but that doesn't automatically mean he CAN'T. Not everyone likes to blow through their essence in a fit of impulse like Suspira does.

Oh wow, he is maaaaad. Three f-bombs in three panels. I don't blame him, though. He's been risking his ass and getting nothing good in return. (Or so I assume.)
-
Oh mannn :D Just poppin' in to say that I'm really liking how this chapter is shaping up. I dunno, I was kinda concerned for Moss showing up again, since I wasn't really a fan from Book 0- never jumped on that fangirl bandwagon. But now? especially with this page.. Moss is kinda awesome. Especially with Fata Morgana sidekick(s?). I can't wait to see what's going to happen!
It's the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny *_*
-
ooh. check moss out. :P
-
Fuck Fuck Fucking Fuckballs. ;P
I'm trying to see the family resemblance... maybe if Moss wore black lipstick and went a little more goth instead of emo :P
-
Ooh, looks like someone needs his mouth washed out with soap ::) ...
Seriously, I wonder what Moss really wants with the Thin Man's research. Death and destruction would be too straightforward an answer, as would pure benevolence. And Moss doesn't quite strike me as the type who would create vicious mutants for kicks. I'm guessing he's either looking for profit (selling the research to the highest bidder, or creating something with the research that would earn him money), or he needs the research to help someone close to him. Moss also doesn't seem like the kind of guy who has any close friends or family, but anything can happen in Flipside, right?
-
Oh man...I hope Suspira doesn't explode or something. I would hate to see her die, I'm starting to like her.
-
She is a lot more sympathetic when she's not acting like a bitchy little premadonna. I usually prefer strong women, but for some reason, vulnerability looks better on her. Perhaps because she acts less careless and stupid that way. :-\
New Strip! YAY! :D
Wow, Moss is actually semi-badass for a few panels.
But who knows how long that will last?
I don't really care who wins in their little family spat. But I hoping at least someone gets dismembered.
We have yet to see Mr Frank-N-Furter in action, but my money is on the heroes. These two would have to be supreme badasses to beat the whole team. Plus, if I want to get all post-modern-slash-meta-slash-cheaty-slash-cynical about it, we just had the team be captured, and them being captured again would be boring, so I think they will win or at least escape.
-
A showdown!
One evil kinky mage with a stick plus his s/m buddy who can nulify any magic attack and steal essence of every mage and make him/her faint, well maybe that rose too has a limit how much essence it can store, but we can guess that he can attack them with stored essence or boost up the uncle with it.
vs
Pissed of lesbian fighter with a magic sword (was it explained what the feats of that sword were? like Bern gain anti-magical shield? or it dispels any spell?) whose big minus is her resistance for mind spells and she can be easily defeated by magic.
Pissed off lvl2 sorcerer called Moss who can see other people weakness.
Fata an illusionist who works for Moss/is his partner but if she creates these illusions with her essence or that is her natural gift/curse not bound by magic rules we don't know yet, so maybe that rose won't work on her, but I really doubt that uncle wouldn't have some countermeasures against her prepared already.
One-hand May whose talk won't work here and drained genius sorceress are rather a burden in the fight.
Plus Glyph a sorcerer, and Crest a knight in the making.
That will be interesting fight to see, but our group is at serious disadvantage here sadly.
-
I disagree.
The power of Danzig and his butt buddy is an unknown quantity, yes, but they are still two unarmed magic users. Even if their power cancels out the power of the 3 (well 3 1/2) magic users on the good side, they still have to deal with Bern, Maytag, Crest and Glyph. Glyph's skill set is also an unknown quantity. He is also pretty pissed off, you forgot about that.
-

My guess is that the research might be a way for him to cure himself of that curse, or something related to the curse.

My guess is that the research might be a way for him to cure himself of that curse, or something related to the curse.
I'd be surprised if Moss wanted rid of his curse after so long. I'm guessing he'd make it stronger.
-
Moss ftw!!! ;D

Probably make it so he could turn it on/off at will.
-
I despise Moss, but he seems a little more genre savvy then the rest of these goons. I would think his plans would involve something along the lines of using the regeneration magic to go into business for himself or selling some super-power serum to a kingdom.
-
Or he could just be after the "research" for its own sake, like say Mengelev or some other "scientists" from history that thought nothing of kidnapping, torture, experimentation, even murder as long as they "learned" something.
-
I think it's time to make some implications concerning Danzig's new "extendable rod" and why he needs to possess people to have sex.
-
An eunuch?
Damn Bern kick that geezer ass!
I hope she can avoid Danzig's extending stick (no sexual undertones here) ;)
-
I really hope she gets some revenge for the bath violation. I like Danzig and find him hilarious, but I wanna see him bleed a little.
-
"This... is my BOOMSTICK!"
-
Have to say if Bernedette is made a fool of in battle in 3 panels I am going to be pissed. She is the best fighter in the group, and tons of time has been spent developing that. I'll take this time to admit that am not really enamored with any other aspect of her character. She can stand up to scythe wielding, blood barfing, mutant cannibals, no problem, so if she is put down with out a second thought, ala Worf in Star The Trek Next Generation, it will leave a sour taste in my mouth. If really hope that after all this character development and setting and all that other crap we actually have a decent fight scene. Lot to screw up here.
But New Strip! YAY! :D
Edit: sorry if that came off as overly negative, but I just really want this to be awesome.
-
An eunuch?
He has a wonderful singing voice, I'll bet.
-
I think it's time to make some implications concerning Danzig's new "extendable rod" and why he needs to possess people to have sex.
I think you're on to something. He also has the need to make his castle look bigger than it is (which is to say, nonexistent).
-
That's funny! Any time you want to make fun of Danzig, don't hesitate :D.
-

There was also a bunch of time spent on explaining how her style is defensive, yet here she's taking the offensive. Bern is fighting out of her element and if she gets owned, it will be because of that.
-
Oops, yeah I forgot about the only fights defensive thing. :-X
-
I don't think the "rod" is extending. I think it's firing projectiles of some sort.
And Danzig, if you knew anything about her at all...
1.) The "bath" incident is not the first rape attempt on her.
2.) She doesn't seem to be attracted to men in general. Perhaps that scar has something to do with it?
-
squeee >.<; maytag in the second panel is so adorable :-*
-
I don't think the "rod" is extending. I think it's firing projectiles of some sort.
Right, like that makes it any better.
-
It could just be a Nerf ball gun :-\
-

That was my first thought exactly.
-
2.) She doesn't seem to be attracted to men in general. Perhaps that scar has something to do with it?
That sounds like you didn't read this comic from start, Bern's a lesbian so by default she isn't attracted to men in general and lesbians tend to be attracted to women only, she's not bisexual like Maytag, and I think she doesn't need any reason like she was raped/abused/molested by guys in her childhood to become a lesbian, she was just born that way.
-
Funny how his uncle says for Moss to tell him how he "really feels", but you know...I think he just did.
-
What Bernadette really needs is a good f---ing that'd straighten her out! ::)
-
What Bernadette really needs is a good f---ing that'd straighten her out! ::)
I agree, but only if it's from Maytag!
-
Uh oh...I just realized, Moss had probably told his uncle earlier about Bern's weaknesses. At least she was able to block it, sort of.
-
So the battle begins in earnest.
I know its against the rule of drama, but I say everyone jumps him at the same time.
-
Well maybe the best way would be all of them to attack at the same time, but we can assume that Danzig knows due to Moss all our group weakness beside Moss's and maybe Fata's.
So I think this will be either Moss fight or Bern will change her style to something new...
Next scene Bern takes that magic sword and kicks ass :D
Or not.
Damn I missed fighting scenes, last one was Bern fight with Mary (I won't consider Mary killing bandits a fighting scene :P) and that was long time ago.
-
Actually, I think, from her look, Bern took the blow rather than let Maytag get hit.
-
Is this where we see Bern forget about defence tactics and just go on the offensive.
-
Is it just me, or does Maytag's arm look normal (not injured/missing) on the 5th panel of page 23, chap. 24? It looks almost like the wrong arm is injured, or else not injured at all.
And yes, I think Bern was shielding Maytag from the hit, hence the comment about position. It's been a long time since the last fight with Bern, so I'm looking forward to it. I would love to see more of crest. He's such a static character lately. Not much change.
-
I wasn't quite sure where Bern was looking in the second panel? Over at Maytag? Danzig's comment about positioning make me think she shielded May from the attack, but I'm not completely sure.
-
Yes it looks like more phantom arm appearances, you also see Maytag's arm and hand in the 4th panel too. She really needs to get that arm regrown so we can stop looking for mistakes XD
It's possible Bernadette's weakness isn't the fact she doesn't have offensive attacks; she's gotten around that before in battles. It looks more like Bernadette's main weak point is Maytag.
-
Mistakes on latest page have been fixed now.
-
That "equal amount" of essence thing was MAYTAG's understanding, not the author's.
Brion made originally had Danzig noting how impressed he was by the ammount of essence Suspira had, but when it was noted that this conflicted with Maytag's intermission lesson that everyone has the same amount of essence, he changed the page and simply had Danzig note that her essence had a lovely quality.
Yeah, Bern was almost certainly blocking it from hitting Maytag, which could have been Danzig's plan since he'd know about their relationship from posessing Glyph in the bath. The other worry is that if Danzig is capable of noting that Bern could have dodged his blow then this might indicate he has more skill in melee than we might think (not to mention that he goaded Bern into attacking much like Bern goaded Bloody Mary). I'm also worried that the blow might have injured Bern's left arm but if she can only fight with one arm then she might resort to the anti-magick sword. Considering they can attack her from a distance, she'll have to abandon her split-rose style anyway and adopt an attack. Besides we've seen her use a single sword against the Maw so she's not completely inept.
Hmmm, The only knowledge we have about the sword is that it's extra light and is apparently designed to destroy magick weapons... and if Danzig's "stick" isn't a magick weapon, I'm a monkey's biach.

So...
why is there a 1 on 1 fight between a sorcerer of unknown strength and bern who can clearly do nothing at all to defend herself against sorcery now while 2 sorcerers, 1 of which supposedly has mary sue-ish power just stand back and watch?
-
So...
why is there a 1 on 1 fight between a sorcerer of unknown strength and bern who can clearly do nothing at all to defend herself against sorcery now while 2 sorcerers, 1 of which supposedly has mary sue-ish power just stand back and watch?
Because the "flower" will drain all the essence of any sorcerer who uses offensive sorcery against Danzig or the wielder.
-
Hell yes, Crest! Show us those balls!
Not...literally, just....through your actions! Yes!
-
Wow. Something about Bernadette's pose in the second to last panel really strikes me as very... elegant and pretty somehow.
Oh, and, way to go Crest. He's just getting more and more heroic, huh?
-
Hell yes, Crest! Show us those balls!
Not...literally, just....through your actions! Yes!
I agree! A great moment for Crest! :D
-
...I'm not sure what to think. In one sense, he's showing a lot of balls, but we've often seen crest do his bravado thing only to have people roll their eyes at him or ignore his suggestion and carry on them selves. The most useful I recall him being is when he had Vajra put a shield over Bloody Mary's fear demon and when he figured out the never-ending stairs.

Personally I think this is going to be another one of those moments when we're all impressed by his bravado and intentions but not by his thinking. Bern will probably point out that she's about as willing to let Crest take the hit as she is to let Maytag take it, or Maytag will simply point out that she can dodge quite well on her own as long as Bern doesn't block her view of Danzig. Heck the other option is for Fata Morgana to simply create an illusion to block Danzig's view of them all (although he might be able to see through it). Other than that, Danzig is clearly using a magick weapon and if that blasted magick sword of Bern's was ever going to come in handy, now's the time. She simply dodges the strike and hits the weapon as it passes her, the same way she did with Bloody Mary's fingers whenever she lunged at Bern.
-
Oh god, Crest showing off which always ends badly for him :P
So now we can guess that Danzig will use Crest weakness to get rid of him, maybe he will aim for Suspiria, ah that would tell us what Crest really feels about her...
I would not be surprised if next pages would be just for us to see in turns each character weakness.
Maybe this too is a test :P
And I doubt Bern would let Crest protect May for her or that May would want to be protected like that like she was someone useless in the fight.
I can see her telling she still have two legs to dodge with a smirk :D
But since Crest is Bern's student and also a friend to both of them it's acceptable.
As for Bern pose in second to last panel I can't really find the words but she's so sexy in such refined way, slim figure clothed in black with that scarf and the cape, just eyecandy, even nude May can't compare, her character design is just the best.
-
I think Crest is just "keeping a eye" maytag. Remember : http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=404
Until now, Maytag was over-injured keeping the group "safe". He is doing the only thing to do : prevent maytag to hurt herself and let Bert focus on the battle. In its place, I shall not put my life in the hands of old enemies. (Or recent friends, whatever.)
And remember, Bert don't trust magic. She won't allow any sorcerer to protect her beloved, she probably won't trust them and keep worrying about maytag.
If Crest fails again, this'll be simply despairing.
-
Aww yeah. This is Crest's Crowning Moment Of Awesome.
-
No matter the outcome, Crest's stock just went up.
-
And Bern trusted Crest's defense, lol :o
Go Bern, win this stick war!
I get a bad feeling that Danzig or his sidekick will use some magic to knock Bern out of the fight soon not being able to keep up with her.
-
Kick his ass Bernadette!
>:(
-
OMGWTFBBQ!
Crest is useful!
...unless that dodged blow from Danzig is protruding from his chest right this moment... I can almost imagine Danzig retracting it, with Crest's corpse hitting Bern as it flies past. *meh* I think Crest is wearing some light armor as well, so he's probably covered which is why Bern was fine to leave him take any hits.
Not that I think Bern will have any issues dispatching Danzig, but I still wish we were seeing the Magick sword in action for once :(
...Then again, I think I saw a second button on that stick of his.
-
Aww yeah. This is Crest's Crowning Moment Of Awesome.
Does that mean he'll be dead soon?
-
i miss bloody mary. hope shes back soon :P
-
Aww yeah. This is Crest's Crowning Moment Of Awesome.
Does that mean he'll be dead soon?
Depends if he got lucky with Suspira. If not, I'd say he's safe (can't let him die a virgin after all ::)).
-
well it would be ironic Crest dieing while still a virgin, he's about to get his leg over at last..............and then he is killed by a Nerf ball gun.
-
Bottom left panel sums it all up.
Bern getting beaten the crap out of while everyone else just stands around like statues.
They even look kinda bored.
...
...
DO SOMETHING!
I know, maybe moss has some super special awesome plan and does indeed not give a fuck. That would be in character.
Everyone else should at least, you know, look a bit concerned and not be all like "Oh no, don't die etc.".
It's their stiffness.

Lesseee...
1.) Crest is busy covering Maytag.
2.) Maytag can't DO anything since her Jester outfit, purse/D-bag, and all her wonderful "toys" are missing. Not to mention that she only has one arm now, and even with BOTH arms and legs, totally SUCKS at melee. (By her own admission.)
3.) Fata is an illusion mage and while background or already active spells don't seem to trigger the "flower," any NEW magic (specifically offensive magic) will trigger the flower and cause it to absorb all the caster's essence rendering him or her unconscious. That rules out glyph too, unless he's a total kick ass wrestler, but we've seen no evidence of his martial skills in any sense.
4.) As already stated, Moss doesn't "fucking care."
5.) Bern would probably take it as an insult if someone came to her aid without her asking for it. Not only is it part of her personality/ charm, but it's also the "Knight's code" that she was trained under. At least that's my impression.
-
1: Crest stands next to maytag, not even looking at that staff he attempts to protect her of. Great cover.
2: Maytag could probably, you know, move out of reach of that staff instead of apparently just standing there.
3: You nor anyone else has any idea how that "flower" actually works at all and glyph doesn't even know of it.
Also fata probably uses about as much " conventional magic" as bloody mary or clairen did. None at all.
4: Indeed.
5: So everyone instantly knows of this which in itself is a guess at best since it was at no point mentioned in the story at all?
Nope sir, this makes no sense, everyone just standing around casually. Except maybe moss and fata.

It's Dragonball!
Seriously though...grab the guy's rod and have a tug of war.
And then have someone run of and punch Escher in the face, steal his flower, and throw it hella far!
-
so much for suspira being a genius. i hope she does something soon. :'(
-
I too was annoyed by that last panel.
Oh look Bern got owned, and there's not even one concerned face there,May or Crest wtf?
But it maybe happened to fast for them to be able to react or they can't belive Bern lost the fight.
I want to see again composed Bern taking the fight into her own pace, damn she's so not-Bern like anymore, seems all her previous abusing experience (being 3 times abused and embarassed by magic in a row is enough) got into her a bit too much, and now she's abused by magical(or mechanical?) stick.
I really hope she will start to think, Bern cool down and use your mind to plan some tactic here and use other guys for help, seems indeed her style is a child style like that old guy was telling before, seems Danzig is too fast for her defensive style in the end.
Time to grow up in your swordmanship Bern!
-
I thought when I was drawing them that I was drawing May and Crest to be in kind of a "shocked" pose, but now that you mention it I guess they do look a bit stiff. Oh well.
-
I have been saying this for about 3 comics now, but, yes, everyone should jump Danzig all at once. And though the "flower" thing is obviously powerful, it souldn't stop everyone from acting without magic, right?
It shows that Moss's idea of being all hardcore and showing Danzig what's up is actually standing around and letting Bernadette do everything. Maytag is missing both an arm and her jester cap, and Crest is defending Maytag, so I don't expect either of them to do much this battle, but the other characters could be doing SOMETHING. >:(
-
If there's a little mini army standing there, why is bern the only one fighting? o.O
./bothered
-
hmmm. Yeah, Crest could have looked a bit more like he was doing some protecting, and maybe Maytag shouting out "Bern!" or something to show her concern as well as surprise but even though the others look a bit stiff I'm not too surprised that they're not too concerned.
Bern is the one who started this attack when Danzig goaded her, so maybe Moss actually had a plan for dealing with him and Escher and is just waiting for Bern to get it out of her system. It'd be just like Moss to let someone suffer a little before coming out with his trump to save them.
I'm not too worried about Bern's composure. Certainly she was goaded by Danzig in the first round but I think it was justified considering how he touched on a good nerve (much like Bern touched on the "Monster" nerve of Bloody Mary). The second round she has been kind of wise in trying to close the gap between them quickly and reduce his effectiveness with the long-ranged weapon, I don't think she underestimated Danzig's melee skills too badly but was caught by a less than normal use of a pole-arm weapon. It's not difficult for me to believe that she expected to be capable of defending from him and closing the gap but now she knows he's highly skilled with the weapon she might finally use that anti-magick sword or possibly come up with another strategy (such as Crest using the anti-magick sword).
Actually, I'm not even sure Crest knows the significance of the sword. We know it was explained to Bern and Maytag but all Crest might know is that he's along for the ride to Eschelon. I guess Maytag could use her brains and grab it to either use or pass on to Bern or Crest.
The big concern is how badly wounded Bern is. Do we presume she simply bit her lip as she was sent flying or that the last strike either broke a rib into her lungs or damaged her stomach lining? Hell, I'm still betting that left arm is tender.
-
Well as I see it Glyph is really the only other person than Bern in a position to do anything: (Excluding Fata and Moss but they don't really count yet, there isn't any kind of loyalty or anything here)
May is down an arm, and while she could probably do some damage still, she's not in costume therefore useless right now.
Crest, Meatshield... not much else to say, but if he moves and tries to fight, he'll it'll leave him Most likely in Bern's way and leaving Bern to worry about May, so he stays a meatshield.
Suspiria was not only leeched of presumably most or all of her essence, with little or no time to heal from it I would assume, during her confrontation with Danzig. Not to mention her little meeting with Melter ( http://www.flipsidecomics.com/comic.php?i=926 ) where who knows what happened, if anything. So it's fairly safe to say she's useless as well.
And that leaves Glyph, and while it's rather safe to assume that he's on their side, who knows what's going on his head. Maybe he's aware that using magic right now might get him drained, who knows. Maybe he's waiting for some kind of opportune time.
Or maybe everybody is jumping the gun and Brion is just building suspense and depth before having people do things, and so he doesn't have to cram an entire battle into 3 pages.
-
I get the feeling that some time has passed since Suspira's essence was drained. Even if only a few hours that should mean she has some juice else she wouldn't be awake, but yeah we also don't know what Melter's done to her.
I'm just sort of presuming that either Crest told Glyph what happened to him and Suspira (i.e. essence drain) or someone else has told him since freeing them. The other option is that he and Suspira actually know what the "flower" does, which would explain why Danzig was standing in front of Escher to block her view of it when she first came up against him.
Thinking back on the stiff/stunned onlookers... I can actually understand it a bit more now that I think about it. Seriously, knowing how good she is, why wouldn't Crest and Maytag be acting like "OMG Bern got her arse handed to her!"
-
1: Crest stands next to maytag, not even looking at that staff he attempts to protect her of. Great cover.
2: Maytag could probably, you know, move out of reach of that staff instead of apparently just standing there.

4: Indeed.
5: So everyone instantly knows of this which in itself is a guess at best since it was at no point mentioned in the story at all?
Nope sir, this makes no sense, everyone just standing around casually. Except maybe moss and fata.
1.) Look at the positions more closely. Crest appears to have been standing IN FRONT of Maytag until he saw Bernadette sliding towards him and stepped back. He is still close enough that he can get between Danzing's "power pole" and Maytag should the need arise.
2.) Yes, perhaps she can jump, duck or slide out of the way, but we don't know how far her agility's fallen now that she's missing an arm. A great many acrobatic feats DO require landing on your hands (both of them) after a good jump or roll. She's also lost a great deal of her "confidence" since her jester outfit is missing. It's what she draws her bravado from. Remember how quickly she folded when Volger stripped her naked out of it?
3.) I was paying attention when it was used on Suspira, and based on what I've seen, it uses the offensive magic as a conduit to absorb ALL of the attacking mage's essence. This is why Suspira dropped like a rock. Unless the author did further retcons on that frame to alter what happened, (conflict with other story explanations etc.) it's a sound theory. As for the "conventional magic," that's why I stipulated that it's not triggered by residual or "background" magic. There's also been quite a bit of travel and talking off screen unless you expect us to believe that Moss teleported instantaneously an ever growing number of people cell by cell until the whole party was assembled. If they traveled by normal means, it would be rather silly of Crest to NOT mention some warning about how Danzig bested Suspira. Moss certainly knew about it as he demanded that Danzig "put the flower away." Glyph may be a pervert, but he's not an idiot. As pissed off as he is, I doubt he's going to do anything until he knows what the flower "does," if he hasn't been informed already.
4.) I'm glad we agree on something.
5.) If I was in the carriage with someone who threatened to gauge some eyes out and rather vehemently slapped someone else (with good reason I admit), I'd be prone to believe she'd be insulted if I tried to intrude on her fight without permission. I'd also be quite scared of incurring her wrath.
-
Seriously though...grab the guy's rod and have a tug of war.
I don't know if Bern would be willing to do that -- she's into girls after all ::).
But Bern's probably right. Danzig probably is very good at swinging his "thing" around :P.
Just couldn't resist.
-
Danzig certainly seems confident with that magick weapon of his. Makes me worry that he has more than that "stick" to back up his claim. But if it's just the stick then all they need is that damned magick sword of Bern's and he's screwed... Brion will probably have them draw it in the last page of the chapter for dramatic affect *lol* (Then again, maybe Bern is still a little aprehensive about using magick).
Alright, so they can't cast any spells, but looks like "cursed" abilities such as Moss's sight of weakness and Fata Morgana's illusions can still be used. I guess Moss was just hoping that Bern was good enough to get them through, remembering how good she was agaisnt Clairen.
P.S. I wonder why Glyph was shown contemplating Danzig's words.
-
Danzig: "there's simply reason for it."
Was that intentional? He seems to speak in properly formed sentences all throughout the comic so far. This one just throws me off.
-
Moss said he's already told them not to use spells with the 'flower' in the area, but when did he say this?
-
Moss must've told them when they're were going along the road off-screen.
But I can't shake the feeling that Danzig planned all this beforehand...
Also Moss should know already his uncle weakness, I would be surprised if he didn't check him before.
The most logical move would be if Bern would give her swords to Crest and Glyph(even if she doesn't like him, he still can be some kind of support, I think that Glyph knows a little of meele fighting), and she would use that magic sword of her father.
Moss could tell them Danzig's weakness,Fata's could cast some illusions revolving around it then Crest and Glyph would attack taking Danzig attention while Bern would use her magick sword to destroy that flower artifact, since it seems to be magical tool.
And they would win easily then.
But the coolest kind of ending for this chapter would be if suddenly bloody hand emerged from the rose and that slavie body with much blood gushing and we would see Bloody Mary smiling face slowly emerging :D
-
Ah, an explanation.
Good.
I bet glyph will whip out some magic BFG or something, melee being worthless and such.
We still don't know what he can actually do anyway. Those x-ray glasses suggest he uses tools rather than actual magic.
-
As was pointed out to me earlier, Glyph uses both. He DID use some kind of levitation spell to "carry" Suspira when they left the carriage since she had used all her essence on Maytag and Bern with that "truth" spell.
Something occurs to me. Since that flower grows when essence is absorbed, is there an upper limit? Can it be overloaded? And if so, what happens?
-
Facepalm. What a "duh" moment.
Wow! Crest. Once again the smartest motherfucker in the room! :-\
And Moss, this isn't particularly flattering for you buddy. Your one track mind is showing. Think outside the box. Seriously.
-
Danzig: "there's simply reason for it."
Was that intentional? He seems to speak in properly formed sentences all throughout the comic so far. This one just throws me off.
Oops. Another small dialogue glitch. Fixed now.
-
Throw your sword, Bern! That always works!
-
Or give in and stab him with a hidden blade?
-
Also Moss should know already his uncle weakness, I would be surprised if he didn't check him before.
I didn't even think about that but yeah, I wonder if Moss knows some mental weakness about either Danzig or Escher which they could exploit somehow.
while Bern would use her magick sword to destroy that flower artifact, since it seems to be magical tool.
I get the impression that Escher's "flower power" is a curse like Moss's eyes. Moss just called it an "ability". But I do like the idea that they might be able to "overload" it if all four of the magick users cast a spell at once. It certainly seems that not all of Suspira's essence has drained away from the flower and with essence being equal it won't matter what level they are.
But the coolest kind of ending for this chapter would be if suddenly bloody hand emerged from the rose and that slavie body with much blood gushing and we would see Bloody Mary smiling face slowly emerging :D
HELL YEAH! Unfortunately she can't get in unless invited :(. But Maybe Maxmillion could still save the day *lol*
-
I think they're all just unsure what to do. They know they can't use magic on him, so Suspi and Moss are useless. And Fata probably isn't entertained much with the idea of fighting, she could probably care less. They just need to take out Flower Power and blast Meteor on his ass.
-
Someone should just go upstairs and ring the bell to call Escher, then they can demolish Danzig as Escher walks out of the room to answer it *lol*
-
*CRY*
NO APRIL FOOLS :(
-
GAH! Didn't even see the new page 28 posted there.
So Glyph really is more than just a sorcerer. He is a member of the Phalanx so you'd think he's well versed in dealing with rogues like danzig and tough situations.
Not sure what he's doing heading back up the stairs that lead to the prison cells. I almost thought he was heading up towards the rooms and bath but thats the door on the left. maybe he'll bring back a blanket, pillor or entire mattress to use in some clever way. Certainly seems to leave little doubt as to his loyalties.
still... WILL SOMEONE REMEMBER THE DAMNED MAGICK SWORD! it should be right on the floor behind them where Bern dropped her bag before the fight. *sigh* I'm guessing the Moss was mainly hoping for Maytag to have her projectiles.
also... I wonder what else Suspira has in her own D-Bag, or if Glyph has one.
-
Ah I see Glyph is using the "Monty Python" strategy "Run away!, Run away!" ;D
-
"If you can do something, do it" Hahahaha.
Well yeah, he basically reduced himself to a meat shield. Of questionable durability.
I guess glyph just runs out of range of that flower to... prepare, right? Right?
-
Is this new page serious?
Or it's a joke?
HAH!
Well everyone fights like they can, but since Moss mentioned magic weapons to work, please Bern use your own pretty head :P
Glyph can't be running away, not after Danzig used his body like that, either he gone for some weapon or indeed he will try to cast a spell from some distance...
I doubt any of them have their d-bags anymore, but maybe Glyph hide his somewhere before he gone for sandwiches.
-

BWAAHAHAHAHA!
Yeah I'm betting Glyph is going into the room, closing the doors and casting some kind of enhancements on himself. Maybe thats whats special about him, he's no so much a full caster as some sort of caster who enhances himself before battle
wait... that seem familiar... could Brion be...
OMFG!

"not very bright, are you?" Brighter than YOU, Moss. At least he's asking the RIGHT questions. As for Danzig's staff. I thought it was mechanical not magical. I mean by using springs correctly, you COULD get an expanding and retractable rod just like the one Danzig's using. In fact, there are several companies that make such devices. Some umbrellas, fishing rods, and rescue ladders work on the same principle here in RL and they obviously don't use sorcery to work.
-
Yes, but we also live in a world which doesn't have such magic. If we lived in a world where simple, everyday tasks and items could literally be enchanted for a function, do you think that it would be that unreasonable of a thing to say, especially considering the person holding the staff appears to have easy access to a vast array of magical resources?
Yes, it's an absolutely reasonable assumption in the real world that something like that uses simple mechanical devices, rather than some advanced technology that may or may not be indistinguishable from magic. But Flipside does not take place in our world, it takes place in a world of magic, sorcery, and far lower technology and manufacturing capability than ours.
Also, It's doubtful that you'd be able to make a staff like that with springs alone - to have one of that length, to move with that speed, you'd need a very strong spring, and you'd need to either crank it back by hand, or have a motor inside that pulled it back in, and it wouldn't move with the speed shown of Danzig's staff. You would also be able to have a spring system that both expanded and retracted the staff, by launching a weighted end out and locking it, so that when you pressed another button to release the lock, it would use the tension from the extended spring to come back, rather than the compression to spring outward - though It would be very hard to do on that scale - hell, it's hard enough to do on the size of a walking stick, let alone something that looks to be longer than a polearm.
Also, it wouldn't be able to pull back in a quarter or half of the way, and then pop back out again at speed on a spring system alone - on a spring, you'd have to retract it all the way to "Re-cock" the staff, as it were, and unless you had some sort of locking mechanism, it would just compress on impact - in other words, it would be an all or nothing deal - all the way in, or all the way out, nothing in the middle.

Of course, Bern can't use her sword because she only has one, and she needs two...
Or at least, that's what they said awhile back.
-
Yeah, I hope Glyph left to get something and come back, and he's not just acting like a pussy :P. I have my fingers crossed.
-
Finally Bern, the sword!
Mr Danzig will get some surprise now, since he doesn't know it's anti-magical sword type.
And I say I'm quite curious what's a real value of Bern's weapon.
I would not be surprised if Glyph would somehow managed to disable the flower guy somehow while Bern will go for Danzig in some next pages...
-
Glyph is a lover, not a fighter :P
-
If it wasn't for Danzig's last comments, I'd almost think Crest was drawing the sword.
Bern will no-doubt be out of her favoured style and is badly injured, but if she can just get one hit on that magick stick with her anti-magick sword, then hopefully the rest of them can take him out.
I'm just worried that she's already too injured to fight. If Danzig was smart he would have pushed his advantage and attacked them rather than give 'em time to strategise. I still suspect that Glyph is going to enhance himself with his magick and return to the fight.
-
Glyph's actions were sensible. Bern's a better fighter, Suspiria's a better caster, and Maytag's a better rogue. He can accomplish nothing by being there, so it makes more sense for him to go cause trouble elsewhere.
That said, where's Melter? He's probably just as dangerous as Danzig and Escher, but he's nowhere to be seen, and may have turned Suspiria into a Manchurian agent or something anyways.
-
"Fabulous secrets were revealed to me, the day I raised my enchanted sword and said 'by the power of Flipside!'.... I HAVE THE POWER!"
-
Heh, as nice as it would be to see Crest take some ass kicking initiative, it means so much more for Bern to take up a magical weapon to fight.
Melter didn't seem like someone who spent much time with Danzig and crew, or the type to stick around so it's no real surprise that he's not there.
-
I think that some of you guys are not giving Glyph a fair shake. On the one hand, he could be actually running to get something that might be useful. On the other even if he is running away, at least he has the wits to do something more constructive then just criticizing every idea that Crest has to improve the situation (like fucking Moss, the **** >:( ) or just standing there with a stupid look on their face (like everybody else).
"not very bright, are you?" Brighter than YOU, Moss. At least he's asking the RIGHT questions.
[in the voice of The Ultimate Warrior/] AMEN, BROTHER TESTIFY!
I hope Bernadette takes the anti magic sword sticks it in Danzig, and then cuts out that Transsexual-Transvestite-From-Transylvania-Wannabe's guts. >:(

EH!?
Now with this cliffanger we have to wait for next chapter...
Don't tell me the sword won't work cause it needs to be used with it's double, or it's protected with some magical password and is sealed currently, or Danzig's weapon is not magical kind after all.
-
Notice: I'm not that good in english. If you don't understand my sentences, just tell me. I will try to express myself better.
If I remember well, that weapon is designed to destroy magical weapon in the meaning "power of magical weapon" ? It's not an ultimate weapon like Excalibur. I don't expect that the sword cuts the stick, but do a dispel magic on it.
Also, Crest could be used as decoy. There is only one man with a big stick. On the other side : 3 swords. Fighting two opponents is more difficult than an one to one duel, except for kung-fu masters.
Bern needs to focus on her opponent and don't pretend to be overloaded.
But there is something weird in the last page : Danzig is doing an estoc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaPbBSAVmG4), which can't be stopped like that. Bern needs to dodge or parry. If parry, she needs to change position and move on one side of the stick (here, to the right) and offer her shoulder to the opponent. A fighter needs to be always behind his weapon, it's a matter of stability. Also, the stick should have deviated (remember, parry). If the parry is successful, the opponent is vulnerable to counter attack. Magical weapon or not. I'm not an expert, but ... Bern would not too much be embarrassed by the stick.
-
...It's a stick. Dodge it once and then just grab it away from him. There's a reason you don't stick real weapons out that far unless they're blades.
-
HEHEHE grab the stick and hold a limbo dance compation................How low can you go? ;D
-
I wonder where the assumption that the stick is magical came from? I don't recall magic weapons having switches. In other words, I think the stick is mechanical, this Bern's magic sword has as much effect as her regular swords.
Either that or if the stick is magical, then it means her anti-magic sword doesn't work without the matching pair.
-
I can't imagine why the sword wouldn't work without it's "twin" that her father has. Otherwise, why would her father bother leaving the sword behind and taking one if their useless appart?
I'm betting either:
1. The sword needs to be activated when used (i.e. "Angel Breath", another button or such)
2. The sword doesn't do what Orrasong was told it would do. (Maybe this one does something else and the other sword is/was the anti-magick one)
3. It's done what it's supposed to do and Danzig's stick will no longer retract or show any other signs of it's magickal enhancement.
-

That would be too cheap.
Brion wouldn't waste a perfectly good Chekhov's Gun like that.
-
Danzig seemed to be pretty confident that the sword would do nothing, making me believe that the staff/stick is not magical, perhaps he is enhancing himself through magic and the stick is normal.
*captain obvious*
Whatever the case is.... Glyph to the rescue!
-
I suspect a Super Glyph is about to appear, but the only other option left to Bern now is to hand that sword to Crest, pick up her own and hope that the two of them attacking together will be enough to get close to Danzig.
Apparently Crest is supposed to have some real tallent for swordsmanship, he's just out of practice and such, but if nothing else he'd hopefully take at least one hit from the staff and let Bern close in that little bit further to reduce the leverage of that "stick"
-
That's fucking stupid. >:(

Exactly my complaint about real life.
-
@Ronin: At least you're not sick of rooms full of squishy balls under trap doors for no apparent reason :P
-
There IS another possibility. Danzig or one of his agents may have SWITCHED Bern's "anti-magic" sword with another that looks like it while going through her stuff. Then again, maybe the staff is mechanical as opposed to "heavily enchanted" as Bern thought and it's just that Danzig has practiced extensively in using the extend/retract functionality to maximum effect. (He uses the staff's own weight to counter the loss of momentum inherent in any kind of mechanical device, the simplest being two opposing sets of springs with latches to "lock" the staff in the new state.)

Of course. We all do. There are anti-magic flowers everywhere. Why else do you think cool magic doesn't exist?
Illusions? Everything is an illusions. Free will...true love...happiness...justice. All of it.
Mind control? We are puppets to our bodily desires.

I wonder if that stuff is magical or not in the end...
Also, Danzig needs some serious butt kicking...
