Title: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: Brion Foulke on November 02, 2009, 12:43:00 pm
Right now, me and my girlfriend Jen are playing this MMORPG Shin Megami Tensei Imagine. If you're not familiar with series, it's basically set in futuristic Tokyo where you fight against demons, and can recruit demons into your party. It's a free MMORPG, but you can buy items from thier website for real money.

Anyway, we are looking for some more people to play with. Just wondering if anyone here plays, or if anyone here would like to start playing? ^^

I might take the extra time to whip out vmware or virtual box and trouble shoot it into working since wine hates atlus to play again, but I haven't had time. :P

Still want to play with your girlfriend ;P

I've downloaded the program but fell asleep before I could install it.

NOTE: Beware that bittorrent DNA stuff they use.

Installed it this morning so I'll make an account and have a play at it tonight.

Right, I'm downloading now, and when I get in, it'll be under the username THEChurba (because some git pinched my name.)

I got TheFencer to Lvl 10 last night then shut shop for the night. Interesting game. Hopefully I haven't taken a wrong path. I'm developing TheFencer as a warrior/fighter type since they're usually the easiest to manage (seriously, just walk up and keep hitting things and taking hits).

Maybe after I've got him a little way I'll take a transgender leap and develop a female character just for the LOLZ

@Brion: BTW are you going to tell us more about your lovely girlfriend Jen?

Basically, you should invest all of your stat points into whichever is your main stat. If it's a warrior, it's STR. Then, just build up all of the melee expertise, and maybe talk. You get limited points for expertise so you don't want to waste them, they can be changed relatively easily until lv30, but after that you have to buy AP to change them.

I'm on right now, if anyone else wants to play.

I've got experience going into attack and rush. I've concentrated on my attack and vitatility stats but also thrown some luck in on the side.

Discovered the hard way that after level 10 you loose your Exp when you die :( I've been avoiding that wounded cat since he just sucks all my experience but I think I'll have to start using him agian, until I get some better equipment to match my level.

Maybe I'll start a second character as a full supportive now I've got some knowledge of the starting game.

It's okay to use Wounded Cerberus for the early game, he's the best demon you'll get for awhile. Since you are a melee fighter, don't put more than 10 points into VIT or LUC, put the rest of your points into STR. Also, you should probably raise spin, although I don't know much about melee builds, but it seems like spin is pretty useful. I don't think rush is too useful, but you might need 1 or 2 classes in it for something, I'm not sure. Also you should raise weapon knowledge too, and talk is useful upto class 1 rank 5 as well.

Actually I'm probably gonna go to bed soon, if you're on tommorow maybe we can play then.

Post by: charles on November 05, 2009, 03:49:07 pm
@Selan: *LOL* oh dear, Now I've got to see if I can go around without pants the next time I play.

Damn! Leveling is slow when you get to level 10 and you've been accustomed to just continuously dying and resurrecting yourself to keep getting XP ::). Now I've actually got to use some strategy here.

I also had the problem that I didn't know I could resurrect my dead demons, so I lost a few (including my experienced Garm :() and just ended the contracts with them no knowing what those orange ring things could do.

Unfortunately I tend to be a bit of a hoarder of items so I don't use them nearly as often as I should. I've got to actually put to use some of these heals, MP raises and consumables which increase my speed and attack for periods of time... After all, the increase of my luck is paying off quite nicely with drops from almost anything and everything I kill.

Follow the quests. They do a pretty good job. As soon as you get out the door from that snake fellow, follow the quest line given by that "Fatherly guard" right out the front of Snake's joint. That pretty much teaches you where everything is and gets you a heap of XP. All the quests are pretty much meeting people. They are pretty much all in HOME III except for the DB with the pixie who is the first person you see outside the doors of HOME III.

*groan* accepted a mission from my Lost Hua Po and didn't realise what it was getting me into.

Now I've got to find monsters in places I haven't even been and where I don't know the way to.

*meh* I took a second character instead and decided to up him. Didn't even get out the door from Snakeman before someone offered to lvl me for some competition and by the end of the night I suddenly found myself at lvl 15 :o (higher than my other character).

Went for a magick user this time. Concentrating on curative and supportive magick. Only problem with the character is that it's hard as hell to fight monsters on my own. Gotta get with parties all the time and support them in killing stuff.

Looks like I missed you today Selan.

Charles, with the demon quests, you want to try to only accept quests you can do, because the bigger your streak of successes the better the rewards. Basically, if it tells you to do something you're not sure about, just reject it. Especially reject any demon quest involving accomplished demons, as those are a huge pain to find. The best ones to do are usually the plasma quests, and fusing a demon. Here's a good website for figuring out how to fuse specific demons:

http://imagine.akukame.org/

Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: charles on November 10, 2009, 10:26:48 pm
Yeah. I'm just using my second character (named charlesw) to go through the universe until I find the way to the place these other demons I need are. It's some field called onei or something. I need a Gaki demon and some other one that looks like a mop. I've got the levels to befriend them, but I'm just not sure where they are.

Didn't know about the benefits of a success streak until I took on the challenge and then went to drop it. Then it tells me about the success streak *lol*.
Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: Brion Foulke on November 11, 2009, 08:50:36 am
Gaki, Datsu-ba, and Oni are all in Ueno. To get to Ueno, first you have to go to Shinjuku, then take the middle right exit to Ichigaya, then keep going right and you'll get to Ueno. The Gaki are right where you enter, the Oni are more towards the top. Not sure where the mop things are.

I'm making a support character too. The main thing you want to do is to go for the chain expertise Enhancing, which gives you really powerful buffing spells. You need curative magic to class 2, support to class 2, and bless at class 1. You can get bless from a quest in shinjuku, I believe you need a faded garnet earring to activate it, which comes from the blue plasmas in shibuya.

Also you might want to get the Curse of the Wretched chain expertise, which gives you really good debuff skills. For that, you need destruction magic at class 1, curse at class 2, bless at class 1, and magic control at class 1. The good spell from that chain expertise that everyone thinks is overpowered is erosion hex, which you get at class 1.

Also, if you're making a support character, you want to put most of your attribute points into INT, since you need it at lv99 eventually. You can also put some into luck and vitality.

Post by: charles on November 18, 2009, 11:23:55 pm
DAMN! I've just found a manual out there which pretty much tells me I've been increasing the wrong stat.

I thought if I increased the MAGICK stat then my spells would be more powerful and INT only controlled how much MP I had. Now I work out that MAGICK only controls how powerful destruction spells are while INT controls how much MP AND how powerful my healing spells are :(

Maybe I'll just make a destruction mage instead of a support mage with charlesw now *shrug*

I'll tell you what, you want a quick way to make heaps of XP? Take a Lost Hua Po and go massacre one Rainbow Jack Frost after another up near HOME III camp ground. It's a bit slow at first since you need to help her out, but once she has some levels herself she just murders them with an Agi (fire) spell and a kiss (later it takes only one Agi). I just sat there and kept targeting 'em and sendin her to kill. Because of their special type (almost only rush attacks) it's a bloody picnic.

Although it seems to really piss off anyone who comes there to complete the quest assigned to 'em *lol*

Only problem with this is that you don't get expertise. So I'm stuck at level 20 and am only just starting to get into Class1 on a few of the areas.

@Brion: I'm going to lvl TheFencer some, so if I see you come in then I'll let you know I'm in and switch characters. Channel 4 for what it's worth *shrug*
Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: Brion Foulke on November 19, 2009, 10:39:26 am
Charles, I did mention that a support mage should be putting all thier points into INT. If you have any other questions, let me know.

It's not too late to fix your build, though. Before level 30 you can buy an item from the magic shop that removes expertise that you want to get rid of. It only costs a small amount of macca. After lv30 you have to spend real money or a ton of macca to change your expertise. Anyway, if your character was focusing on magic, make them into a Demolition Dash mage. That's a chain expertise from getting rush / destruction magic / magic control up to class 1. It's basically a combination of destruction magic and dash, and it's a really good skill that does tons of damage to monsters in a wide area.
Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: charles on November 19, 2009, 03:16:19 pm
@Brion: *lol* I know, I read back and saw that your post mentioned INT over Magick. Don't know why I confused it.

Yeah, I haven't gotten too far into class 1 with my support and curative magick (thanks mostly to my Jack Frost massacre leveling tactic) so I'll just start letting my destruction magick grow again (already class 1) and either put the others on hold, or let them grow until I learn the next spell.

It's going to be a pain to raise my RUSH from scratch but *shrug*
Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: Brion Foulke on November 19, 2009, 04:20:57 pm
The real pain of leveling up your expertise doesn't begin at all until the higher classes. You should really buy those items that delete the expertise you don't need, because there's a limit to how much expertise you can have, and you'll need all of it you can get. Once you go past level 30 it becomes very expensive to get rid of unwanted expetise.

Title: Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine
Post by: charles on November 22, 2009, 08:22:41 pm
Found the items to delete expertise... Can you believe I somehow haven't spotted the magic shop until now?

I saw your user come online at one point but when I changed to my other character to get him into the guild I suddenly couldn't PM you :(

*meh* A few of the other clan members, including Lyon, spotted me and decided to make TheFencer a bit of a leveling test bunny... Before I knew it he was well into level 23 thanks to some silver runs and a heap of EXP incense I had.

I'm leveling all the physical expertise traits right now. I'm not sure what I'll end up with, but I figure it's a good way to see what I get and then I'll just kill anything I don't need/want when I get to level 29 (i.e. before level 30). There's a certain chain expertise which needs Attack, Survival and Weapon knowledge. I've also learned my lesson about armor... BUY SOME!

Seriously, I can see now why there are so many low levels out there farming for plasma. You get the money, buy the equipment and your whole life is FAR easier.

Hope to catch you in there at some other time.

I haven't been on much this week, sorry.

Is anyone here interested in some free AP? I have been playing on the Aeria poker site and I have like 7 million chips saved up. But you can only convert 20k chips a day into AP, for which you get 200 AP which is the equivalent of 2 dollars. Anyway, it'll take forever to convert all of my chips, so if anyone here wants some chips they are welcome to take some. All you need to do is sign up for a facebook account, and then link your facebook account to your Aeria account. You can do that here:

http://apps.facebook.com/poker-heroes/

You can also play poker with the chips if you want to win more, but please don't do that unless you're confident in your poker skills. If you want some chips to convert into free AP, let me know!

Post by: charles on November 23, 2009, 05:26:09 pm
Thanks for the chips Brion! Already traded in 20k of 'em (gave 184 AP *shrug* exchange rate *lol*)

Whats the best thing to save up and spend on? Anything that increases your Experience limit?

Also, is it just me or does poker heroes have some special thing in it's programming to cause big hands? In short session, I've seen more four of a kinds (including 4 aces) and straight flushes (including a bloody royal flush) than in my entire life.

P.S. learned the secret of gaining experience. Take a character to the Virtual Battle room, strip them of EVERYTHING and start fighting with your fists. Rapidly rising up the chains now.

"experience" limit? Do you mean expertise? There are incense you can buy on the item store that increase both your experience and your expertise gain by as much as x5. But just between you and me, those things are not worth buying from the item store. AP has a macca equivalent, in general you can sell 100 AP for 100k macca easily. Most of the items from the item store are actually a rip off in terms of AP price, you can get them cheaper for macca.

Your best bet is to either sell AP to someone in the game, (you do that by buying stuff for them, and they pay you the equivalent price in macce) The best item in terms of macca worth in the item store, as far as I can tell, is 10 Link Melons. You can get 10 for 1000 AP, and sell them for 100k each pretty easily, that gets you 1 million macca. I don't think there's anything in the item store with that good a conversion rate that is as easy to sell. You can then turn around and use the macca you got to buy stuff like incense at a much cheaper price than you would at the item store.

Right now 5x expertise incense is really cheap for some reason, I'm not sure why, but you can buy it for 150k each. Best way is to go to Babel and listen for people's shouts. Also, the best way to sell stuff is to go to Babel, channel 1, and shout. You can also use the bazaars, but it's a waste of money if you don't have 5 things to sell. Also the bazaar tax is pretty large, so it's better not to use them on big money items. When I'm trying to sell Link Melons, I usually go to channel 1 and repeat this shout: "S> Link Melons 100k" every 5 minutes or so. I can draw or do whatever while I'm doing this so it's pretty easy.

About poker heroes... yeah, when I first started playing I thought the same thing as you. It seemed like pocket A's and K's were coming up too frequentally. But after playing there for awhile, I think I was mistaken, it seems pretty normal. It was probably just luck that that happened. Everyone calls on most hands, and nobody ever seems to fold draws, so you're going to see more big hands in general.

Yeah, the virtual room with the slimes is where most people build expertise. It's great for building all kinds of stuff. Hey, if you're building up a melee character, make sure you don't ignore spin attack.

Damn! I noticed a ranking on the Poker Heroes website and noticed that Brion is the highest earner for the past 7 days and 30 days.

He's about 9 times higher than the 2nd place for the last 7 days and twice the 2nd palce of the last 30.

You're right mate. No-one in there compares to you.

Don't have a pass for you, but I'll be happy to give you poker chips which you can exchange for AP.

Oh man...I love SMT, but I hate how Aeria makes you pay $$$ for good items.

Yeah, pretty much. But if you have Aeria poker chips, you can get free AP.
