Title: New Rules, and Moderator Stuff
Post by: Brion Foulke on April 11, 2009, 01:00:24 pm
The following new rule has been added to all of the sub-forums:

IV. Be Careful Posting Offensive Images
Do not directly post images that might be seen as offensive, such as nudity.  However, it is okay to link to them, as long as you specifically describe the offensive content of your image.

Also, the "Artist's Den" has an expanded rule about posting threads with "offensive" content:

I. Nudity and Work Safe Images
Although rule IV says you may not directly post nudity, it is okay in this section as long as your thread is marked NSFW, and clearly indicates what type of offensive content it will contain.  For example: "Mr. X's Art Thread!  NSFW (nudity)"  If your thread is named that way, it would be okay to post any kind of nudity, but not okay to post any kind of sexual acts, because the viewers may not expect that.  Lets say you wanted to post your tentacle rape art, then you'd have to label your thread like so: "Mr. X's Art Thread!  NSFW (tentacle rape)"  In other words, your thread must be clearly labeled so that the people clicking on it know what they are getting into.

A couple of new people have been made moderators, Smiles and Akashayi.  Right now, I am working on a "general guidelines for moderators" post, which will be posted in the "Talk to the Moderators" sub-forum.

No, not at all.  Why... what did you do?

ETA: I went and looked.  You mean that piece of art you posted with the penis?  Naw, no one complained.  Actually, what prompted me to add this rule has nothing to do with that, it was brought to my attention in one of the free talk threads that people weren't sure what kinds of images they could post, and I realized I needed a new rule that would establish some sort of guideline.  So it actually has nothing to do with your penis!

However, since I just put the new rule in place, it would probably be a good idea if you change the name of that topic to include "NSFW (nudity)," so as to set a good example of the new rule for others.  But keep in mind that if your thread is approriately labeled, you don't need to have additional warnings inside the actual thread, so you can just post your pictures at will.

Also, I have now added a "guidelines for moderators" post to the "talk to the moderators" forum.  If you are a moderator, please review these guidelines I have set out for you.

Good stuff. Thanks for that Brion and Grats to Akayashi and Smiles!

I'll work on the rules for the RPG section over the coming week, but it'll pretty much just be putting in writing all the general rules and guidelines that are already in place or taken for granted and tidying the look up a little.  I can't think of any significant changes that are needed, but if you want to make recommendations, etc. please do so in the general chat threads inside the RPG sections.

Thanks Charles :)

Reading through the Moderator guidelines, Brion. Just wanted to say... I've always really appreciated the focus on transparency, here.

Gotta agree.  I thought the addition of the Graveyard was a nice touch.

BTW, I think you can prevent users from deleting their own posts and even restrict the moderators from deleting in some forum applications.  Not sure if this forum has that ability, but just thinking it might be a good thing to implement after recent events.  Any deletions required, they can simply blank out their own post with an edit and MODs can move posts to the graveyard.

Not sure if its possible with this forum software though.

I'm sorry but that's just plain Stupid. If I post something I should be able to delete it... period

At the same time, deleting threads deletes the posts of everyone who was involved, which is also not fair. You should be familiar with this, Pozf. Even though you're still on top ;P

There should be a middle ground in this matter. The ability to delete posts but not threads?

Maybe, but it feels wrong that if I couldn't deleted my thread that say I wrote when I was really angry and attacked everybody, before anybody saw it... But this is a moot argument at this point in time

Like I said, they'd still have the ability to edit, so they can just clear the text in the post or PM Brion to request the post be deleted.

The other forum I'm a MOD in doesn't allow deletion of posts and people simply clear their text and PM me to delete the post.

I have to say I agree with you Charles. It seem fair, since people can still delete the content of their posts before anyone would see something offensive anyway. But also prudent, given recent circumstances. It really isn't fair to everyone else who lost their posts when all of those threads were deleted.

@Pozf: I see what you mean, but I'm pretty sure you can edit the title of a post as well... At least I know you can in the other forum I've mentioned.  Granted, depending on the title, you might want the ability to still kill something like that.

I could be wrong but I think the other one is that post which are moved to the graveyard can't be deleted OR EDITED by the original poster.  I can understand that a poster may not want a certain post they made in anger or without thought to be on shameful display for all eternity because a MOD got to it before they did, but that would require a request to Brion to remove it as even us Mods can't touch a post once it's there.

I'm so out of it, Deatzh. It seems like you've basically owned the Art forum since day 1. :D

We should fix the Moderators list thread in Talk to the Moderators.

I would actually like to set it so that people can't delete their posts/threads, but I've looked through all the options and I didn't see an option for that.  Maybe I missed it...

Thanks for fixing the list of Mods Brion.  It didn't cross my mind sorry.

I'll do some research on this forum software when I get home but it could well be that this one doesn't have it.

From another simple machines forum I know it's possible to take away deletion rights. But not how it was done.
